yO guys.
Its been a while.....hope you're all good.
Some of the older members may remember me....I was a prety active member on here until I sold my CW 9 last year to a friend of JimBob-EK9.

Anyway, I now have a more sensible ish car (Fabia Vrs with some subtle mods). Really cool car, looks nice, quick, handles ok, ecnonomical, but its just not me. On top of that, I've have been itching for months to get another EK9.
As much as I'd prefer a 9, I'm swaying more towards and EP3, mainly due to them being cheaper to buy than the 9, the 6th gear (I do the odd motorway trip from time to time), and I need enough space to carry passengers plus lugguage etc in the boot.

I was speaking to Jimbob-EK9 about this yesterday as he as recently gone from TDI - to EP3. Hes gonna take me for a blast at some point next week in his EP3:drive:

I was just wondering if many of you had gone TDI and ended up coming back to Honda?. Or even those that were TDI initially and come over to Honda?

Either way let me know your thoughts.
Running costs are not too much of an issue, but it would be good to see some comparisons.

Thanks for any info:cool:

bit far from the TDi route. but i recently had a EJ mini me (about 140bhp) and went to a Ibiza Cupra mk3, 1.8T engine running just shy 200bhp and as much as it felt good just wasnt a honda, was comfy handled okay looked good very clean, anyway swapped it for a dc2 other week and my god i love the dc2 so much more! fair enough it hasnt got as much torque and pick up but its so much more fun, missed the squeeks and rattles of the honda so made sense. def worth going back!

i also test drove a ep3 while selling the ibiza and it is a really nice car to drive, decent low end pull and vtec kick is good! my only critism of the dc2 is sitting at about 4.5K on the motorway at about 70ish but other than that honda is the way to go my man!

EP3 are the bottom rung of the type R family imo

get yourself a DC5 if you want a nice all round daily car that you can still have fun in

I went from a b18 em1 to a S14 silvia running 260bhp. That lasted 10-11 months until I swapped it for a dc2 and don't regret a thing. It may not be anywhere near as quick but it's the most fun car i have had! It may be down to the driver and way you like your cars but you can't beat the rawness and crazy handling of the Hondas!

Welcome back dude, If you miss your Ek9 i'm affraid an EP3 just won't cut it for you. :(

i think the DC5 is a good option although not as cheap as the EP3's

for fun factor its hard to beat a 96spec DC2 these days, prices have bottomed and if you spend a bit on a re-bush some good tyres and brakes you have a very capable track car that isnt terrible on fuel despite only having 5 gears

DC5 is also a good shout

I was exactly in the same boat as you mate. After my crash in my EK4, bought a re-mapped Fabia vrs, as i needed something that was cheaper ro run. Mine had full leather interior too. It was a pretty good all rounder and never let me down, torque was fun....for a while, then i started getting bored and NEEDED vtec again ! Got an ek4 again and still loving it every single time i take it for a drive

Tbh, after a few rides in my mates ep3 with full cat-back spoon n1, tegiwa intake and eibach springs with frsu i was left a bit disappointed, unless you want something thats relatively fun and a decent on the motorway. If youre looking for all out fun and rawness, youre best off getting a dc2/ek9/b18 ek/eg/ef lol :drive:

Thats for the reply peeps.
Would love a dc5, but they're out of my budget.
I've looked at dc2s, and although they are within budget, I really wouldnt trust myself with one i.e. I'd get the modding bug hard again, especially being back on here lol
I know they ep3 will be nowhere near as raw as my ek9 was, but then I'm not after a balls out car, just a practical daily driver, thats quick enough to put a smile on my face and not as boring to drive as a VAG.

@yoshi- The torque is pretty crazy in the vrs's once they're remapped isnt it. But as you said its get boring after a while:(, especially if you're used to having vtec.

Alright Tim,hows it going?

Just sold my Golf Gt TDI (had it for 2 years) and i'm going to pick up a nice low mileage EP3 asap!

Before the Golf i had a facelift ep3 and before that a prefacelift dc5,best bang for buck honda wise is an ep3,the one i'm buying has done 62k miles total standard and its £2500!

I went from a mk5 golf gttdi mapped and tuned to 186bhp and 326lb/ft of torque and 45mpg average to my ek9..
I'd say I'm glad I made the change! The price of diesel is roughly the same as super unleaded so that doesn't bother me and without ragging the car all the time I get good mpg, the gap is small enough to warrant owning the car over a diesel and I use it daily.
The sound of vtec and the drive Is enough for me to be happy over TDI
