Hey guys just new to this forum and thought I would register, some mates recommended it lol, basically never had a Honda before it's been supras etc but I'm getting drawn towards ek9 type r's, can anyone help me with some figures etc for insurance, running costs plus a decent car and what problems to look out for?? Thanks!!

AHHH comic sans :nono:

Seriously though - welcome mate! You'll find plenty info here.

As for insurance prices, you might wanna provide some more info so people can be more specific! I'd be about £1500, but I'm only 20!

I'm sure others could be more helpful than me - I have a 'teg :)

welcome bud.

i am 23 and have a vti and my insurance is on 950 per year and thats points and crashes declaired.

im with elephant so give them a bash bud

welcome again

Tbh no point asking us for insurance prices, it'll vary for everyone. Where they live, what they'l drive it for etc. If you have NCB's etc. I'm 20, drive an ek3. Had my car almost a year now and almost got 1 years no claims. Was paying roughly 1000 before but insurance has went up :angry2: So once i renew it, it'l cost between 1500-2000 :(( And this is with a family member under the insurance otherwise it'll be over 3k!

Its over 6k for me to get insured on an ek9 right now whereas you get people driving ek9s who are paying less than what i'm paying for my ek3 so everyone is different. Although i can't see it being much more than your supra if it was the twin turbo one.

And welcome to the forum! :nice:

Hello and welcome! Insurance wise just go on gocompare or similar website and get a quote, that will give you a rough idea, too many variables for us to consider! Running cost wise I find the ek9 perfect - never had a supra but I can imagine it being more expensive. EK9 really does not differ from lets say EK4 very much in terms of running costs, same road tax etc... Most common problem (and arguably most serious) will be rust, check rear arches, underside, engine bay, basically whole car. Gearboxes tend to have issues with syncros so make sure there are no crunches. And also ask about oil consumption, there will be cars that use no oil at all - perfect, low oil consumption is however fairly common and I wouldn't panic because of it. Excessive oil consumption is bad as with any other car. That's about it, rear wheel bearings seem to be prone to failure and are £130 each plus fitting, something to check as well!
And finally, expect to pay £4500 - £5000 for a nice clean standard car.

I was only £650 for my supra on bell insurance but that got stole and set on fire and iv had problems with them paying out on it!! I'm sure anything would be cheaper than running that guzzler got a few parts that I managed to salvage from the fire like alloys and exhaust, lights etc so I'm goin to try and sell them and put it towards my summer toy lol! Just need to keep an eye out for a nice ek9 in the mean time!

another way that you can sometimes reduce it is by putting a partner onto it. or a femal pal and say they are your parnter. i still have my ex on mine that i have twins (which i do ) and it brought mine down a good bit.

only know this from selling insuracne in the past

hope thats helpful as well.

happy hunting bud

Welcome along mate +1 for Glasgow.
If you were insured on a supra then it should be a but cheaper to insure the ek9. £650 for a supra is quite good :nice:
There's a few ek9 for sale on the forum which are pretty neat.
Running costs depends how much you use your car so a full tank about £50-£60 of v-powaaaaa.

i used to have a supra n/a and have an ek9 now. the ek9 is a lot cheaper to run. my ek9 is for sale as i gotta buy a damn van for work grrrr. its a 2000 type rx pm me if you would like some details on it .

Pm'ed you mate, Welcome along to ek9.org, Should notice a big difference from running a supra, Im 22 with 3 years no claims, 9 points, 1400 with all mods declared, Prices vary as mentioned though

Cheers and enjoy your stay
