Guys i'm having some problems with my oil cooler. It was allready fitted when i got it but its cooling to much while daily driving. Its an HKS version with i think the thermostat set on 70 degrees.

At the track the cooler works perfect cause the oil stays artound 100 degrees but i drive the car mostly on the public road (80/100kmh) then the temp on my oil gauge doesnt get higher than 70. The sensor of my gauge is fitted in the sandwich plate of the cooler.

Questions:

Is the oil in the sump hotter than in de plate?
Does anyone know if i can mount a different thermosthat in the plate or is there any company who sells a plate with a thermosthat of 90 degrees?
Is it possible to mount a different plate to the hoses of the HKS cooler?
Does this cause more fuel consumption? (now running 100/10ltr high octane) normal driving.

Ive been driving for 1,5 year now with this setup and during the summer i can get the car on 80 degrees but in my opinion thats still not enough. The car doesnt burn any oil.

Every thing that helps is welcome....

Thanks

Pretty sure there is a few guys off here running oil coolers, think they got round this by having a temperature activated valve that isolated the oil cooler until the engine oil temps reached a certain temp, then allowed the oil to circulate around the cooler once the oil temps tripped the switch.

for a temporary solution; just put some duct (or other heat resistant) tape over the oil radiator to restrict air flow.

mocal do thermostats, maybe have a search and see if they do one for this use

get a piece of plastic and cable tie it to the front oil cooler this will restrict the cooling and will get u up to temps for DD, and remove it if u go to the track.

i did this with my street car that u used to track, worked a treat.

Thanks for the quik response!

ok i forgot to tell you that ive allready fitted a plate in front of the cooler and now the oil gets up to 80 degrees (when its not to cold). What is the optimal temperature for an honda? I thought it was 85degrees? The oil im running is motul 10w40

I saw mocall thermostat is at 80 degrees so this could help. Maybe if i use that one with a block off plate zip tied to it than it should reach around 90 degrees

i have my daily run around 80 and my race car reach around 80 to 90 max, this is in summer at 40*C heat.

i wouldnt really worry to much about, as long as u have the block off plate in front the cooler for DD u will be fine.

Over cooling will damage your engine. Oil thermostat is needed to heat to proper levels.

I've been having same prob lem my oil cooler keeps oil temps way to low like on a longer run go's and stays 40 cheers for this idea hate to think how much damage would have already been done

Cheers for this will give it a go
