Hey guys, just had some aftermarket headers installed and there is a leak between the header and the exhaust pipe. there is no cat, however I think its using the factory flange from the factory exhaust system.

Now Ive been told a flexi needs to be put in there to fix it, and it will involve hacking up of the headers etc etc and cost quite a bit and dont want to go down that path. Its using the donut gasket that was on there before, so If I get a NEW donut gasket will it fix it ? I mean they dont leak from factory right? is there anyother way of fixing it? may be some exhaust sealant? anybody had this issue before?

Thanks in advance

there's no need to hack up the header.

Whoever told you that is retarded. It would be best if you knew exactly how your header is mated to the exhaust.

Take a picture of the joint in question. Was the midpipe modified to with a roll flange or was a small testpipe fabricated with a roll flange?

i had the same problem with a 5zigen header at the same join your talkin about. I tried a new "donut" gasket and different bolts and it was still the same, then tried all different combinations with a de-cat pipe and it was still the same was blowing horribly. Eventually after trying everythin without goin down the whole paste route i sent it back and got a refund. Was probz just a fault with that perticular header but was not impressed non the less. Now have the oem one back on with the de-cat and its running beautifully :nice:

I see, you put the oem headers back on and it fixed it ?

yeah the cause of the problem was defo my header hence i sent it back, not sure what people have told you bout cutting it and all that i would seriously avoid that mate !

yea definately not going to but my headers up lol, Ive just tried to put a washer in the spring so it loads up a bit more, but still leaking. may be I should put some gasket silicon between the donut gasket?

thats what i didn`t want to do i just think its messy and don`t like using it. Up to you man but if its blowing that badly i don`t think paste/silicon will fix it then you`ll just be left with a mess.
