I've been thinking of getting a 200sx recently, possibly, really not sure though!

I'd get a decent low mileage one thats not been modded too much, but I was just wondering if anyone has had one before? or has anyone gone from an EK9 to a 200sx before?

I can imagine its a completely different type of car obviously, but just wanted some input from someone in the know.

Would running costs be alot more? Is reliability an issue etc etc.

I'm only considering it at the mo, but I've always fancied one so might go for it. If I can afford it I'll keep my EK9 and get it as a project type thing.

Cheers for any input/info guys

I had one :) loved it! apart from the times it was off the road, never have i had a car off the road so many times due to problems!

The running costs will practically be double (no joke)

They are awesome fun but just too much as regards of cost of up-keep etc.

I swapped my S14a for my 98 spec teg.

Seriously that much! :O Thats surprised me, I mean I've been doing some research on them and a lot of people say they've spent £1000's on them. But most of them have been modded quite highly, so I thought it was just the normal turbo type thing (if you want big power you have to pay big bucks)

I'm loving my EK9 at the moment, an have been considering doing a decent build on it over summer, so I might go for that option instead.

Anyone else got any opinions? I'm sure I saw Matt Gee on here at some point? Didn't his bro have an S14a for a while?

I could be completely wrong of course :))

Whats happening with your teg now btw? you got any further with selling it or keeping it? :nerv:

mate ive not had a s14 but ive owned many subarus and the running costs of turbo cars is alot more then the civics thats why ive gone to a ek4 sir, insurance, PETROL and general upkeep of them is much higher. Also when the engines go bang because of the extra power that you wont beable to resisit in the end it all cost money.
My advise would be stick to the ek9! i should imagine that in standard forms the ek9 would be as quick as the s14 anyway much lighter not alot less power

I've had both (and still have 1 or 2 or 3 EK9s!)

For motorway/dual carriageway driving the S14 is great but for everything else the EK9 wins hands down. The S14 was pretty reliable and parts are much cheaper than Honda.

Unless you want to go drifting stick with the 9! For UK roads and weather FWD is much more fun.

I know it's not an s14 but i just have to post it up as it's 1 of my all time favourite cars. probably the only car i would swap my 9 for at the moment

Might have some problems with speed bumps though

I personaly think its one of the only other cars i would have over the enjoyment of having the almost the perfect FWD to a good alrounder RWD.

They are easy to tune not mega expensive. Yes they will be a fair bit more to run, as at the end of the day any turbo car will be.

Reliability is generaly down to if you get a good one or not and how well you look after it. This time last year i had both my EG6 and a 200sx ended up selling the 200 as the bottom end was on its way out but that was understandable as it was at 160k miles on the original engine internals otherwise i wouldnt have sold.

I work in a nissan dealership an see loads of well looked after and even a few regularly track day'd. The reliabily usualy goes down hill wen ppl skimp on oil changes or are running higher power and ragging about witch of course ur goin to get problems.

Personaly if you fancy something with a bit more comfort, to play with a RWD and a boosty car u can rev quite well then id say an S14 is the perfect choice. (u will probly soon want higher power than std as the turbo bug will soon settle in because theyr so easy to tune)

drove my mates silvia for a week to see how they drove. ended up sticking with the ek9. spent well over double on fuel but that was mainly because i was enjoying the turbo far too much. found i could drive back roads alot faster in the ek9 too. quite hard to find a unmodded one in good condition. i viewed about five and four of them were pigs that burnt oil.
you might be lucky and find one in good condition for a good price though

ive have had both an modded s14 and a std s14a . My std fuel economy round town in some traffic was about 21-26 mpg but my modded sx was about 6-10mpg no joke . The bottom ends are always fine untill the second they run lean and then bye bye piston so make sure if modding to follow the guides on sxoc . If you can keep it in a straight line great but you will spend a lot of time sideways like it on not :) . If i does go sideways tho its very easy to drift and controll compared to other RWD`s .

here is a little vid of my sx with only a few mods ... i did spend £3000 after this but only improved time to 13.1 @ 111mph as i just couldnt put the power down . on the road from 60+mph was stupid and the top end is silly , i have a photo at 170mph on clocks (157.4mph true speed on satnav)

I imported and owned a PS13 for about 8 months

Like has been said, 3rd-4th-5th gear is awesome....just plant it and hold it straight. The Nismo mech diff in mine kept things in order for the most part, but you could easily break it out with abit of clutch kick. ;)

But the novelty wears off and luckily I made a nice profit selling it on, and was back in a N/A FWD car. Keep your 9 and get into trackdays.

i did play with s-body and skyline for over 10 years now.
they are good, easy to get power out, fun drift car. not very cheap to run if you tuning it up. but is reasonable if keep it standard.
if you really want to get one, try to get your self a jdm due to it had got a better turbo and mapping, power more smooth than the local one.
price wise:
local s13 around 1k
import 180sx 2.0 red or black top around 3k
import ps13 ( sq. front end) around 3k up
local 14 around 1.5k
local 14a around 3k up
jdm 14 silvia around 2.5k
jdm 14a silvia around 4k up
jdm s15 na around 3k
jdm s15 turbo around 8k
all priced to a reasonable good condition vehicle

just remember they are good / fun rwd drift car, but not a fast around town car.
hope this help.
