Filling the gearbox through the breather hole

I purchased a bone dry 98 spec DC2 gearbox, and I figured I´d fill it tonight. However, it sits in an EK4, and there really wasn´t much room to work with hoses and funnels to fill it through the proper hole. As far as I knew, you can fill the gearbox through the breather hole, so I did. But - when I´d passed 3 litres and nothing was coming out of the filler hole I got worried.

Anyone have any tips? Or is the MTF just reeeeeeal slow..?
 
3 litres is way too much ,drain it out again and remove speedo fill through there instead

you sure it was three litres, when i filled mine up it was coming out of the fill point with around 2.5 litres.

Yep, I _passed_ three litres. And the filler hole is open, so I don´t know where on earth the oil has gone. I double checked the service manual to see if the breather pipe went into the clutch housing, but it didn´t seem like it. I was in a rush, so I just left the car with the filler hole open, will be interesting to see if anything has come out during the night.
 
silly question but is the car level, ie front not jacked up?
 
The car is level by the way, and I´ve rotated the wheels to see if that had any effect.

I don´t know, perhaps I´ve stumbled upon a gearbox intended for the Paris-Dakar rally with an extended capacity. I´ll undo the drain plug tomorrow and see what happens. If nothing comes out - THEN I´ll panic.

thats what id do mate...drain it out and if it all comes out just refill it to the suggested capacity

I am thinking along those lines as well - but if it all does come through the drain hole it surely should be coming out of the filler hole as well?
Will be going back to the twilight zone tomorrow night, so hopefully I´ll have some light to shed on the situation. :)

you would have thought so.
iirc, the capacity is 2.2 litres...so after 3 litres it should be pissing out
