Well on Memorial Day my bud Mikey hosted the first Wangfest TT event at Gingerman Raceway. We really don't have a strong time trials series out here unless you're running with NASA TT. Wangfest is a bit more open regarding what's allowed for modifications, it's cool if you're k swapped or have forced induction. Not too friendly if you're striving to build a Honda Challenge H2 car with a 1.6L! Was still great fun getting out there and having friend competition between all my buddies. I thoroughly got my ass kicked by my friends in their K swapped car, so I made it my challenge to see how close to their times I could get.

I was running FF Modified with my pretty much H2 spec 99 Si. The 1.6L held its own. However due to UPS's failure to deliver my full set of brand new 225/45/15 Toyo RA1s, of which they delivered 2 and lost the other pair, grip was compromised. I was forced to run some worn out R888s in the rear that eventually corded on me 3/4 through the day, making the rear end come alive. Did my best and came out with a 1:51.64 for my best run, I believe that if i had had all new rubber a 1:49 was possible. Guess that will have to wait until the next time I make it out to Michigan!

Since I was pretty much out of the running, I utilized the open track time I had to get as much data on the car as possible. I have a few changes to make to the car, and I think it'll help quite drastically with the car. Car is still running on a stock ECU, and I'm working towards getting some aero for the car as well as upgrading to a 1" brake master cylinder.

Enough chit-chat, here is the footage of my best session. Track was semi-wet and starting to dry out, making for some good times!

Testing out new ways to take corners to see if the data proved that short cutting (aka "The Gutter Run") turn 1 at Gingerman Raceway (Counter Clockwise) was indeed faster. Seemed that lap times began to fall the more comfortable I became with carrying more speed and utilizing the full width of the track and then some by putting the inside wheels in the grass. Throughout the day I made similar attempts at other corners but they did not seem to work as well, or it kicked up too much dirt on the track. I plan on perfecting these lines going counter as well as clockwise (race) directions. This is what home tracks are for!
