Right, currently have the ek9 for fun.
And running around an aerodeck 1.6 as a hack, but I'm bored of it.
I do 100miles a day commuting, pretty much all motorway.
Find the aerodeck tiring, noisy, a bit wheezy and un refined. Also been neglected by previous owners hence looking to change and move up.

I currently am looking at the accord type s 2.4, seems to have some grunt and reasonable mpg.
I want cruise, air con, sat nav etc.
Looking to spend 3-4k tops.
Must be able to achieve 35-40mpg on a run (70mph motorway)
Any suggestions?

Looked at Mazda 6 mps but poor mpg, maybe a VAG diesel like the a6 Quattro but they seem like potential money pits.
Prefer jap but may stray...

Not really what I'm looking for to sit on the motorway for two-three hours a day mate. :)
Looking more accord/mondeo/avensis top of the line stuff...

Accord. Got a 2.2 diesel estate as ny daily and they're comfy as, mega nice to drive and I love the torque

I'll probably get shot down for this, but a saab 93 or 95 diesel. will easily do 50+ mpg, can pick one up for next to no money now and have one of the most comfy seats I have sever sat in :)

Civic FN style 2.2 cdti
Easy 45 mpg and 0-60 in 8.6 same engine as above accord but you can pick one up for 3k easy
Me dad had one, good cars

Is the 2.2 engine any good from honda?
I guess it suffers the same DMF and DPF issues as the rest?
Does it respond well to re maps?
Is the increased purchase cost and risk of break down worth it over a type s 2.4? :/

I've seen one tuned up to be faster than an ep3 so potential there no sure about their reliability but say its a safe bet as its honda :)

They do respond well likes, they're reliable engines if you look after them properly

And just a stage 1 remap and egr bypass will get you 200bhp and 300 foot pound torque

Can also get stage 2 and 3 remaps as well

And a dead clutch?
I'm not convinced diesel is the way, they go wrong and cost more than a petrol potentially...

The accord is a great car. The old icdti engines dont suffer from dpf problems but the new idtec engines do. Fantasic cars but when they go wrong there expensive to fix as with all diesals. For example duel mass flywheels and clutches are a very common issue and i think there about a grand just for the parts. Thats for genuine parts.

I had nothing but trouble from my Saab 93, by far the worst car I've ever owned !

I'd go for a diesel accord and fit a decent sound system if you're going to be on the motorway for decent miles. Wouldn't bother with a re map etc, keep the money for the ek9.

Accord 2.2 Diesels can be unreal problematic, I wouldn't touch one personally. We work with them day in,day out and the very common issues are injectors, fuel pumps, abs pumps (very common and expensive,) steering racks, turbos, egr (particularly in pre facelift), exhaust manifolds crack, driveshafts (driver side more common to go than pass side), dmf. Also if servicing skimped on or wrong oil used the bottom ends go pop in a flash! Having said that you can get an odd good one lol

06 upwards of the diesel accords are better engines with no probs 06 under giving trouble with the manifols and timing chains.

Or a k24 that is bullet proof, less initial outlay and can still get near 40mpg on a run.

Looked at VAG stuff, the 1.9 pd engines aren't really quick at all. And the v6 stuff is over complicated and expensive when goes wrong.
Confusing decision! :/

Looked at an is200, slower than the accord and thirsty.

My dad just got a 2.2L Accord (diesel) and loves it. Mega comfy and looks awesome too. I prefer it to his old 525d.

I have for sale 06 plate seat Ibiza 1.9 tdi full service history 60k does as much 77.1 mpg. Average with town and motorway 480 miles per tank which cost 55 to fill,
