Wrapping the header and the decat are supposed to give a little increase in power....but exactly how much is questionable.
This will be one of my next mods.
Just have to find cheap heat wrap first.
cheap heat wrap defeats purpose, it simply doesnt do job intended so buy decent stuff
thats fine, thermo tec and dei are most popular brands, good average stuff
cost me £95 (thats be lot cheaper in u.s) to wrap mine but thats steel zip ties and can of the protective spray (i wouldnt buy spary again), i used about 70ftx2"
black stuff is waste of time, just turns white after a while
you can get really high end stuff but very very expensive and harder to source
Hey guys .. So I went with Dei . Local parts store had some .. I picked up 50 ft... it was somewhere around $40... wrappped them tuesday and also added a DIY air feed?? Lol .. I have a pipe going from front bumper straight to my intake now .. So get some cold air in and with the heat wrapp keep some hot air out lol .. Although I have to say I wish someone would have warned me about the smell of them burning when engine heats . And also the smoke for the first 20 minutes .. Lol I took her for a drive tuesday night after the install and as i was at a red light .. She started smoking .. BAD lol .. I thought she was gunna explode .. So I pulled over and checked it out .. Everything looked normal stopped smoking and now bieng the 3rd day everything is back to normal except the smell .. Still kinda there .. But everythings feeling good now . And I can DEF feel the gain .. Mostly when my a/c is on .. Usually it would bog then go now it jus goes .. Guess it wasn't getting good air before . So these adds truely did help out .. I really recommend these adds .. Thanks for you answers and resonds guys .. Will post pics of engine bay soom
You need to get a programmable ECU now. Really you should have this already to better tune your engine with your upgrades.
Maybe next week you can pick one up?! lol
Well I was thinking about a swap .. Im currently still running the stock y7 with only headers intake and exhaust . ... that's the only reason I've been holding off on major performance parts for the motor ... now for the suspension .. I've been spending a lil bit of money lol .. But yea I jus did these little adds cuz they were cheap and Really do benefit
BUT .. As soon as I go b-series, ECU in the shopping cart lol .
If your going to a B engine, from a D, you can use the same ECU from Hondata. This is what I did, Hondata is compatible with both D and B engines. I used the same Hondata ECU on my D16Y8, B16 and now my B18.
Get one, you will not be disappointed.
Well then, I did not know this .. And I was deff gunna go with Hondata .but I thought id need my motor first ... but don't push me man .. I might jus buy it hehe
Not trying to push ya. lol. Trying to get everyone to see the light. Even with your SOHC engine, the Hondata can squeeze even more power from a totally stock engine with a simple tune from a professional and a dyno!
I was able to get +7hp just from the ECU tune! On top of that, found out that the engine was running lean--no good for engine life. I felt the difference once the SOHC was properly tuned, its was way more responsive, just had more pep!
Good luck, and do not wait to pick up a Hondata.
