Just noticed my temperature gauge was just about at the top, As soon as I put the heater on hot and turned it right up the gauge dropped to normal position in about 20 seconds (about half way) does anyone know what could have caused this?

Thanks

Presuming you've already checked it had some sort of coolant in the radiator, It might be the thermostat. That's the first thing I'd change anyway, they're cheap and very easy to do.

Last time a checked it had plenty, didn't check wen I got out this morning as car was still hot, it's sitting at my works depot just now and was planning on checking it when I got back, just thought I would ask on here, I was thinking the thermostat too but I am unsure how to tell if it's that or not

Can you recommend anywhere to get a thermostat? Not a fan of buying things like that from eBay as you never know what cheap crap you are buying

Thanks I just checked out japserviceparts website and for the price of the items I will replace them both and see if that sorts the problem out

Honda thermostats have a habit of sticking open rather than shut. Worth a shot non the less for the cost.

Nope. If it's not losing coolant then probably is the stat stuck closed, test the bottom rad hose when you get it up to temp. If stat is open it should go warm as coolant goes through the system.

Well here I am with my tail between my legs :( turns out the coolant was low, thanks everyone for the replys, I topped it up and everything is ok, I plan on doing a full service in the coming weeks, I will still be changing thermostat etc when I do the service

Id be looking into where the coolant has gone, as it should be a sealed system. Check for leaks, hopefully it is that as worse casr it could be the head gasket.

As above, coolent doesnt just dissapear, check for any leaks otherwise look towards a headgasket.
