took my ek3 in for mot, failed due to emissions high lambda and hyrdo carbons..
the car has brand new cat and exhaust and runs a 4-2-1 header.
i replaced the o2 sensor then retried mot, failed again
the tester advised running some fuel additive and retrying so i done that,
failed again
he then said maybe the engine coolant temp sensor was iffy so i replaced that and retried again today and failed again... im giving up now,

all out of ideas... anyone maybe have an idea?

results are
lambda limit 1.03 actual 1.92
HC limit 200 actual 260
CO limit 0.2 actual 0.29

Can you tell us more about all the upgrades you have made to the engine? All of them?

the car has a induction kit and 4 branch manifold
recently serviced and has a hamp oil filter and ngk spark plugs
other than that the engine is stock

drives fine no issues atall

4 branch manifold?

What induction kit do you have?

Did you drive the car really hard prior to taking it in for emissions test?

induction kit looks like an ebay job to be honest, yeah i ran the car ragged on the way to the station

Something is not right, of course...have it looked at by someone. Its seems that you are running rich for some reason.

Try a new ignition coil, when these start to break down they can alter emmision levels, well before they let go. £80 from Honda

i had the same problem try changing your thermostat it worked for me

well the mot station have said the exhaust isnt leaking
i just took dizzy off and rotor was manky looked like it was black along half of the electrode end, the dizzy looked burned on 2 of the connectors and was very corroded up... new parts on now...
checked throttle body to see if it was very dirty which it wasnt
checked vacuum hoses which all seemed ok

will have to rebook mot and see

sorry for the delay but been too busy to get down to the mot place yet... car i ssat there getting cob webs and dusty....
maybe next week ill get myself into gear and get it sorted
:drive:

failed again... numbers had dropped a bit but the garage advised getting timing checked maybe...

have noticed a slight bogging down occasionally from low speeds and very occasional misfire, so going to check the spark plug gaps are all correct and go from there

gapped all plugs to .44 they were only slightly wider than that,
they are all showing signs off soot im losing the plot wanna give up!

its costing too much now, this was a projct car to fix up and sell on and now its becoming un profitable!!..
options im thinking now are faulty map sensor or too cold a grade spark plugs maybe?

Overfuelling, did you replace the Coil? or just the cap. Mine was chucking too much fuel in too, new coil now it's sweet. Check resistance on coil? this won't always show a problem though. Don't give up, more fun to find the problem good practice.
