hi all im new to the honda scene want to get away from the french side, i have a c2 gt at the moment very gud car but very board of it now and find it slow been looking at a ek9 or a uk dc2. Im 22 been driveing nearly 5 years 1 years no claims because i was on my dads insurance for a while like you do :).
Soon i will be selling my car im on a budget max £6000 but finding it so hard, finding a ek9 for that price my second option is a dc2. iv found out some quotes im looking at £1270 to insurance so not to bad are keep phoneing round, anyone no where i can get it cheaper etc.Is it worth the hassle getting a import like the ek9 is there any extra cost etc to get it on the road.

many thanks jay

Try elephant and admiral insurers. I was paying less than 1k when i was 21 + 2yrs ncb..

I'v tryed elephant £1300 but if i ad my mum or dad as a name driver its about £980 but im the main driver hows it work don't understand do they have to pay extra etc not sure.

no, thats what i do... have me as the main driver (and policy holder), then mommy and daddy as 2nd and third!! lol

you might aswel do it if it saves you money, and it doesnt affect them in any way either if you have a claim.
The reason its cheaper if their on too is because the insurance companies see them as being less of a risk, so if their driving it too, the chances of you claiming are less.

I also stated that i do 4k miles a year estimated (which is true). That reduces it a lot from the average 12k..

oh cheers for that i was a bit worryed if i went with elephant and added my mum and dad etc would be on my mined but thanks. so iv got about £6000 to get a ek9 will i have any luck picking one up for that price and hows it work with importing shiping etc.
Or i might go for a uk dc2 but thats my second option i don't no about the looks. what would you do?

cheers j

If you are doing it yourself, it is possible to get one for £6000 on the road.

the condition should be average / good average.

From an import company, you will struggle to find a decent one for £6000.

Although with a company, you can often get finance to help with any extra prices you may need to pay to get a decent one and you can sometime rely on everything being done and perfect rather than going to the hassle yourself.

its more money, but an easier option.

so im looking at £7000 or £6500 then insurance on top, i want one in good conditon and everything done i might go for a uk dc2 no hassle, dont no what to do im putting my car up for sell soon so have a good look around.
cheers j

I wouldnt advise importing a car yourself from japan unless you really know what your doing.. If you buy from an importer you get to see and drive the car before you buy it, but yes, you will pay a fair bit more.

Take a look at buying a 2nd hand ek9 in the uk. This way you'll get the benifits of buying from an importer, without the extra cost. Just make sure you do all the relevant history checks before you buy one, and preferably take someone who knows a lot about them.
