as a relative new comer to the civic/ek9 world i was wondering if somebody would be willing to post a few pics up of where exactly the resonator is on the air box? and any air box modifications that people have done after removing it?

thanks guys

Thanks Andy. Was just getting round to starting a thread after our chat earlier, but saw you already started one:)

I'd be grateful for pics etc too guys :nice:

I can help you with photos of the resonator, let me know if this helps, I removed it from my car a couple of months ago :)

I was doing some reading up on them last night (Hondarevolutions). Its one of those 50/50 things again. Some guys were saying to get rid of them, while others were saying to keep them, as you lose low end power?

I don't agree, that part is only used for sound reduction purposes, it's just a plastic chamber hehehe

Here you go, The white part is the resonator (correct me if i'm wrong)

:nice: dude. I'm a little confused though. So people remove this box, then just have a cold air feed from the bumper going to the air box?

ah cool a thread im interested i too, as ive read that it isnt just for noise reduction but causes frequencies etc and holds air to increase throttle response
its all too much for me

thats HUGE to what i was expecting...when i have taken resonators off fords in the past they have been tiny little things!

that looks like id does a **** load more than just dampen the noise.

The box is designed to accelerate air from one pipe to the other, but I fail to see how it could be better than just a straight hose.

I think its more like this box is better than Ford's box, and thats about it. :p

I think.

I am very confused looking at that picture!...what is black box thing?

i been browsing through pictures, i.e. RVM cold air thingy.

this black box has no holes in it??

can some show me what the standard intake looks like...

from the picture the air entered to the white ? then...where does it goooo?

thanks

how restricitve is the standard ek9 airbox setup? what i mean is if you had a decent header, cams and management would the airbox really hold you back?

I ve got a b16a2,ctr cams, flatvalves(for a little more compression) ctr valvesprings,chipedOBD1, IM skunk2,EM jdm itr 4-1,61mm catback...about week ago i still had aem v2 intake on it.Two days ago in remove it,and put on stock complete airbox.Maybe i ll buy some k&n filter... My buttdyno can barely fell difference between aem v2 and oem.. but thats just my opinion, maybe i m weird :D

im starting to get the idea my money may be better spent elsewhere, 5zigen hedaer next then me thinks :)

thanks for the picture, i understand now, and they have this setup for likes of Accord as well.

I just wondered, how come EK9-R also uses it.

and what is strange is that the air Inlet comes back up under the bonnet, whereas the ITR is behind the bumper.

this has made me wonder, is the ITR better tuned? or is this air box/intake setup is very efficient? will all those chambers be there for a reason for optimum airflow pattern/velocity/volume?

I think honda design all those boxes and resonator with reason. But i agree if b16 heavy tuned ,stock airbox is bad idea..
For my setup cca 180hp,stock airbox is enough...:nice:
