EK9/Civic
I'm amazed at how prices have increased over the past few years.

Yesterday, a freshly imported EK9 in perfect condition was offered to me for $16,000 USD.

That's just around 8kUSD less than a 2021-2022 Civic Type R.

How have prices risen in your country?

:wow:

for sure prices are +50% ,but you have to be very carefully on local market (in my country we cant import cars more than 5 years old or 30_ years old) )cars since we are talking about a 25+ years old car.
some seller think just because they own an ek9 will sell high.
i remember prices around 5k ,10+ years ago ,lowest price i remember was 3.5k

OP, where are you based to where an FK8 is in the mid 20s USD?

Or even a "mint ek9" for $16k. Haven't seen nearly anything go for less than $25k in the USA, and many of those were hardly 'mint'. Ranges from $25k to $38k for the nice ones. I certainly paid more than $25k for my 8/10 example (after import fees / broker / port fees / taxes, you name it). OP must be in Europe or some place the EK9 is more common? Late last year when I was looking at cars in Japan to import, they were ranging from $20k USD to one I even saw at $48k USD (a VERY minty low mileage facelift RX example), but those prices are before you pay to get them to your door, and that is far from cheap. At least in the US.

same here. i paid mid 20s for my decent condition ek9 here in california. europe doesn’t really make any sense either because the most fk8s were delivered here in the states so supply/demand here is the highest and it should reflect that. also the us car market is generally less expensive than other markets. maybe the usd conversion was done wrong?

I bought my 1998 pre-face EK9 about 10 years ago for €4,200 here in Ireland. It was a nice original clean example. At the time mint facelifts were making up to €5,000. Prices seemed to have peaked about a year or 18 months ago here. Very clean examples that didn't have hundreds of thousands of miles on the clock were breaking the €20k mark (at least asking price). Not many being advertised these days and I don't have much time to track the market, but prices seem to be floating in the €15k - €17k range now.

Guatemala, here we can get some cars cheaper since they're bought with a salvage title in the US.

does that mean the ek9 in good condition is also about the same condition as a salvage or R grade?

Has anyone here imported an EK9 recently? What was your experience with customs and regulations?

I bought my current one in 2018 for €7k. The same car now would be priced at circ €15/16k I would expect. I sold my previous one which was far superior and VSM in 2009 for €6k and it’s still going around today.

There won’t be any “good” ones for sale these days for less than €20/25k. VRT in Ireland has made importing one too expensive to justify hence will drive up the price of good examples here in Ireland.

I would find it very difficult to justify the prices of a low mileage high graded one at the moment as my fear is that you wouldn’t truly be able to enjoy the car and rather keep it locked up.

Current examples here for sale in Ireland

Even the bog standard EJ9 is at an unreasonable level.
