hi there guys

my car is weird lately. been having so many problems with it (i guess when it hit's 100thousand km's and everything is left factory, it's time to change right?>

when driving round city, car runs fine.

it's whenever i hit 6.6 to 8.7k rpm it splutters.

i've change the rotor button and dizzy cap and coil already

leads and plugs i havent touch as yet

what could be the problem guys? it's irritating knowing your car is a slug at WOT

kenny

have a check inside the dizzy, i had two wires shorting out on eachover, and it only happened in vtec when the coil was giving it the extra charge.

Mine did that but it was because a washed my engine bay and some water went under the plug cover.

I would take out the plugs and have a look. B series ar known to leak oil down the spark plug holes fron the rocker cover o rings.

Hope that helps

had the exact same thing on my ek4 SiR and was oil down the plug holes because one of the plug o-rings were passing slightly, will be able to tell straight away by taking the plugs out and checking for oil etc

thanks guys for the reply!

there is currently no oil in the spark plug holes (i always make sure of that)
and it is completely dry in the holes

Have you checked the oil level?
Vtec won't engage properly, if at all with low oil level.

i remember setting my timing to the red mark (OEM 16 degrees?) this is when the car started to behave like this

but when i advanced it to the next white line 18 degrees car seems to fine perfect, but the car pings ...

this car is really giving me HEADACHES!!!

oil is on max level, changed my oil to mobil1 about 2 weeks ago, doesnt burn oil

VTEC does engage no problems there

but when i AM in VTEC, car splutters and jerks to redline...

leads and plugs is the only other obvious things, you said you haven't changed them yet? would be what i would check next

what plugs should i be going for?

never done them before (owned the car for 6 months or so now.(maybe more)

ngk iridium spark plugs are what i use. ask in the auto factors and they will tell ya the right ones think the part code is bkr7ei-11, would check the old ones first though, not all oily or black from carbon, should be kind of brown at the tip if their ok,

alright guys

got some plugs today and fitted them and BAM car drives better then when i first got it.

switching to a colder plug made such difference it was quite great (put a smile on my face) when i got the new plugs. i used my gapping tool and they were preset at .9mm (just before 1mm) i gapped them myself to 1.1mm is that right?
car atm has a flat spot from 2-4k. above 4k thing flies any reason guys?
goes great and induction noise is noisier too!

here are some photos

someone tell me how my old plugs are? it's tan where porcelain is, and black carbon on ring

i used no platinum or iridium ones, i change everything at 5 thousand km's

glad to see your car is up and running smooth again.

The colour of your old plugs looked ok, the tanned ceramic is old age lol

you can tell how your engine is running by the colour of your plugs

Black = Running rich/over fuelling
white = Running lean/under fuelling(dangerous)
Brown = perfect air fuel ratio

and if you see tiny silver specals it means detonation which you definately dont want.

also spark plugs are very fragile i dropped one about 8 inches and when i fitted it and hit boost it used to missfire around 4000 rpm

honestly cant be happier now.

just trying to figure out if i gapped the plugs right and why there is a flat spot in the rev range.

other then that car boogys now
