After some research, I’ve discovered the stock EK9 header has a 2.5” (63.5mm) collector which I was unaware of. Is it beneficial replacing it for a s/steel true 2.5” design with either a 4-2-1 or 4-1 set up, or is it just a waste of cash?

The collector maybe 2.5' but the internal diameter of the primary tubes are not, an aftermarket header will be beneficial.

Depends what you would call worth it. I changed mine over for a Mugen 4-1 with a decat and it felt less restrictive and smoother but the power gains won't be much off changing the manifold alone if anything. Especially without getting it tuned.

What diameter piping does your's have Scott? and what gains if any did you see on the dyno?

i think the weight advantage alone is worth it, the oem cast section weighs an absoloute tonne!!

You'll gain 5bhp minimum with a decent header, you'll also save around 6kg which is a great saving

Ours is worth a look, we would even take yours in p/x

Thanks

only really worth replacing with a 98 spec ITR mani (best bang for your buck)or a very good aftermarket mani with good sized primaries and a true 2.5" internal dia collector. otherwise i'd spend your pennies on refreshing your suspension and upgrading that, as thats where you'll notice your money the most.

Mine was a 2.25' but I never had my car dynod before it was fitted. However, when I was running the mani, decat, cat back and induction kit the car made 185bhp. I then had it tuned which put it up to 197bhp with a Hondata. But that isn't cheap.

Those figures were from TDi north so are high but you can see the gains there.
