EK4-Facelifted C/W EK9 B18C6 (complete rebuild)

oil on plugs is most likely caused by worn plug seals, just buy 4 new ones as not dear

it's on the inside of the sealing washers but it's getting a new rocker cover gasket anyway so i might as well

well the new d2's are fitted along with the timing belt tensioner and water pump now being sucessfully finished and fresh coolant now in. again willl post pics up once i get a chance.

unfortunately while it was at honda for the belt they found my brake pipes and fuel pipes where so badly corroded they said they actively wanted to seek the previous mot tester as there was no way it should have passed... great!!! so picked up some new copper stuff along with some unions ready for attacking it this weekend. fuelpipes however i haven't yet decided what i'm going to do. was thinking about aeroquip but don't know if it's possible with a standard fuel tank.... just an idea atm but will see if it's feasable.

on a side note do any companies make a full length braided brake hose kit for the ek4/9?

custom jobby im afraid, shame your so for away or would have let you come remove lines from my ek9 yourself for few £

sorry to keep hearing about this, personally i'd report the garage that mot'd it to vosa, chances are it was a dodge mot, especially with seats rocking around and then the brakes lines being excessively corroded.

have just gone with standard copper lines and some o.e. fuel pipes from honda.. fuel pipes don't arrive till saturday so with any luck the car will be done by monday. Still need to replace the induction kit but no money left :( so it will need to do with a piece of duck tape covering the holes  until i find some money (will try not to make this too long obviously)

You may have lol. Was there a Jordan in the video too by any chance? :)

ok so small update again still not got the car back from honda (fuel pipes coming from belgium :( rest assured there will be lots of pics on it's return :)

was up at crail with the st and ran a 15.809 @87.7mph racing some of my workmates cars (a fiesta rs turbo and a golf mk4 v5... easy win :)

what sort of time could i expect from this civic?

Easy mid 14's.

Id be happy with anything under a 14.5.

Missed this! From what you're saying when you got this car sounds like a pretty shitty deal. Shame to buy a lemon.
From the pictures you've posted, that EK dosn't look too bad. Then again pictures can say different.
I totally agree with what someone said ^ buy an EK9 shell and swap everything over.
Looks to be a good project.

yeah think thats definately the best idea just need to let my wallet recover from the hammering i've given it over the past few weeks and once my st is sold and my council pothole claim payed (that'll be the day but then £500+ is worth chasing) i should have some funds to sort out a few more bits though i'll be leaving that till after i drive it for a few weeks (make sure there aren't any more niggles i haven't noticed)

car had it's first real outing today bakes are good just not as much inital bite as my st's the d2's are pretty good soak up the bumps very well in comparison to my old KW's though it feels a bit nervous round corners and pulls to the right a little bit so i need to get it on the wheel alignment machine. as for the engine it feels good if a little like it's holding back.

am i safe running a jdm ecu on a b18c6 with ultimate or v power fuel or is that liable to be a problem?

the twin loop is bouncing off of somewhere when on idle but only when it's hot so i need to look at that but otheriwse pretty happy with how things are progressing so far :)

wow i looked at buying this car lol

looks ace on dc2 rims!

glad your fixing it up :D

sorry about the slow addition of pictures i meant to put up some i was going to take today while i fitted the energy shifter bushes however the mount at the gearbox the bolt snapped when i was tightening it up.. (cue lots of swearing and throwing tools about in a strop) before i realised that the thread of the bolt was loose enough to turn it out using a 90 degree pick. So i cut a new bolt to size and hey presto sorted.

unfortunately i didn't realise that the rear bush needs the metal spacers from the old bush so i need to rescue the old bush out of the bin before it's chucked out and refit that.

also found a large mount at the back of the engine is missing a very sizeable bolt? will need pics up of this as it looks like it's load bearing

next problem.. (there are a few lol) the rear anti-roll bar links are totally shot so they need replaced so it will give me an excuse to remove the roll bar have it shot blasted and powder coated in black (it's too big for my acid dip)

next up. the car weaves left and right when under power and when letting off the throttle in vtec the back end of the car instantly tries to crab to the right even between gearchanges so i think a a geometry setup is definately needed.

also i'm getting a loud hiss from the engine bay like a vacuum hose or something whenever i let off the throttle.

a wee bit of a list hehe. pics should be up 2moz so long as nothing else goes wrong lol.

ok a few small teaser pics and a few ones for questioning...
a few pics showing the new d2's hel braided hoses and the twin loop (apologies it's a bit dirty atm as i'm spending every spare minute working on the car rather than washing it/ tidying it up. when i get everything sorted all the anti roll bars suspension arms will be shotblasted/acid dipped and powdercoated black or silver as the underside looks a bit grotty.

Ok so this one has me a little confused as i don't know the car/engine enough to know what should sit there. should that bolt hole be empty? and also the long bolt that sticks out should that be holding something in particular? and should the manifold bracket that you can just see at the bottom (dc sports) not be attached to something???

Finally got round to doing the engine oil and filter.
added some wynns engine flush and carried out a flush and full drain of the engine oil and filter. replaced with a hamp oil filter, 4 litres of castrol magnatec 10w-40 a3/b3 and fitted my skunk2 magnetic sump plug (not entirely sure of the oil atm but i will be doing a full flush and change of the oil filter and oil in about 3k miles just to make sure all is well.

need to check and adjust the valve clearances. does anyone know of a good guide for doing this on this engine and where i can get the clearance values?

thanks in advance
Lewis

next little niggle... speedo stopped working this morning and then randomly started working again when driving back home from work and went into vtec.. :S

That 2 spare bolt holes there should be a bracket that comes off it and then bolts up to the manifold to support it

It is not neccesary though, i don't run one either on my Fujitsubo manifold. In fact i have heard a few horror stories of the bracket being ripped off the manifold or cracking etc when bolted up, i would leave it as it is for that reason :)

WOW. I missed this thread some how. I saw this car after the conversion was done and had to wire up the Vtec to get it working for him as when he did the conversion he couldn't get it figured out.

I never had a good look around the car but it looked ok from what I saw. Sounds like you got a bad deal out of it. Glad your getting it sorted though its got potenial to be a nice car again.
