ek Civics leaking??

i can see this being a bitch of a problem...although there is a garage in work so i will ask them if they can degas the system and then i will look into taking things out to do it etc.

do you reckon that once its degassed (even for safety even if i aint taking pipes apart) that it may be possible to unbolt and move the stuff aside or drop it down to create room etc without undoing pipes etc? plugs and looms im not worried about but i know that the main aircon pipe goes into the bung on the right of your pic ye?

you need to take the aircon pipe off (yeh right of the pic), the whole unit don't move if you don't.

you need to undo them under the bonnet, take out the battery Tray (three 12mm bolts).

then you will see the 2 10mm bolts, once you got that off and the nuts/bolts inside the car, (think there was 6 in total). The whole unit just drops.

I loosen the ECU as well, and lay it flat on floor. and also take that metal bar thingy under the glovebox off.

waggle the whole heater/aircon out.

** I will try to do a guide next week, as I still need to put back everything and get pictures as I am doing it.

Its not too bad of a job to do, most things are straight forward.

cheers for all that info. im going to get righht onto it when the weather clears up

EDIT* Did you make sure it was coming down from behind the blower?

no problem I was the same as you.

Yes I have done all that, I understand what you mean its still getting in....

the other way to seal that bit is I been told to take fender off, roll back some metal and then you can get to it.

the only way to find out is to try water test after the sealants dry.

if not
The heater unit is just a few 10mm bolts, and some trim and glovebox.

Then you will see the bit in my picture, pour some water down on the screen down that corner, you will see it come in.

heres the mess I had to make to seal it, in this picture it was not enough the water was still coming in to the right of the black sealant.

I had to redo it where I have mark out, it looks like theres like a "gasket" or some sort. So if you seal it up to that it looks like the water will stop going to he "right".

did mine today and hoping its worked..will checked it tomorrow once the sealant has had more time to totally dry and set.

its not that hard a job to do tbh..if i had rushed it could be done in a couple of hours etc but i took my time and tried to dry the carpets out and all that stuff.
as for degassing the system..its easy! lol all these people saying the system could explode due to the pressure are over exagerating a bit.lol. just take a service cap off one of the pipe lines and press the valve down using a a screwdriver to release the gas.job done. obviously this is now illegal as the gasses should be captured and contained for eco reasons etc.

if you look at the pic that TMUS posted u can see where the water is entering the footwell and i have sealed pretty much exactly the same places..but the origins of the leak are actually above that. if you look the picture TMUS posted there is a large hole (above the sealant) for the heater/blower system. this is covered from the outside by the plastic shield that runs along the bottom of the windscreen, this is you could clearly see that the rubber/foam had perished slightly and was leaking into the car and then down into the footwell etc. so i also lifted this up and sealed around that join and also sealed from inside the car on the underside of the shield etc.

fingers crossed it has worked.lol. just dont want the hassle of stripping if out again.

good work i forgot to makea guide for this, I have a few pics.

regarding the shield bit, in my case it doesn't come in from there, the water is coming from where the water drains off into the fender.

if it aint that seal like said. cheak the air con box aint leakin cos that sits up behind the glove box

na def not that as you can trace the water down from the point that me and tmus have mentioned.. sadly i didnt have my camera with me in the unit so didnt take pics.sorry!!..if it doesnt work and i need to redo it i will put a guide up.

i fixed mine i hope! i think it was comin up from the foot well. cos i saw a water trail comin down from that area. just basically under the passenger mats the silicone filler was gone black do i thought that was from water.

hopefullt it did the trick if it didnt ill have to strip it again . its a proper pain

how do you mean UP from the foot well. or is it a typo.
not sure if mines worked...hoping to check it tomorrow if possible. if it doesnt work the next option may well be a new plastic strip that runs along the bottom of the windscreen.

what sealant did you use denward? just out of interest

typo sorry. cant really describe it. if you have the mats down it seenms as if it was comin in form the top of the mats.

i dont know what it was , some type of silicone sealant.

hope it doesnt leak again

lol so from the top of the bulk head/bottom of windscreen really i guess you could say.lol.

seems a common thing. think by looks of it TMUS used gasket sealant. i used the same as its pretty hard core bastard stuff..horrible stuff if you get it on something though.lol.

fingers crossed for both our cars.lol.

did you notice any water stains or signs of leaks from the plastic cover, u can see it up through the hole that the fan/blower leaves behind.

na the only water stains i saw were under the carpet on the bare metal. gave the mats and carpet a good clean very fresh smell again in the car:D
