Hi guys

Im in the middle of putting a B18 into my EJ6 coupe, i got 96 spec ITR driveshafts with the engine

I fitted the shafts but ive found the o/s shaft seems to be too short  When i have the hub nut tightened up, gearbox oil leaks out the seal where the shaft goes into the box... then if i remove the hub nut i can push the shaft into the box a further couple of inches, which then stops the leak

Are EK9 shafts a different length to ITR ones? i thought all B series ones were the same length

Or does anybody have any ideas what the problem could be?

cheers

EK9 and 96 spec DC2 are 32mm splines as are 98 spec UK DC2

But the JDM 98 spec DC2 use 36mm splines

Unsure about the difference in lengh though..

Yeah i had heard that too, its just the length that seems to be different for the drivers side one i have

You could take it into a local parts store and get one that would fit it normally and compare them?

Hmm dunno what the parts places round here would be like if you asked that, tbh i dunno if theyd stock driveshafts

Think im just gonna try an EK shaft and see what happens

You guys don't have something like Autozone? I have been using the 2000 Honda Civic Si axles from there because they work...and they're cheap.

Nah we dont have Autozone, we have shops like that but ive not seen any that sell driveshafts. We have small motor factor places too but they usually dont stock things like shafts

Does anybody know the exact length of an EK9/DC2 shaft? or would anybody be able to measure one for me?

when you put it into transmission, does it click? the snap ring on dshaft going to transmission should hold it in place.

from 98-01 integra manual

I cant remember hearing a click but when i removed the shaft to measure it i found it was tight in the gearbox.. which suggests to me that it was held in by the snap ring

if it was held by snap ring, it should have little play 1 or 2mm.
did you measure distance between edge of joint casing to transmission?
is it the same to your original dshaft before you remove them?

i had a hard time trying to fit dshaft back in transmission and were supposed to push it at the inner cv joint casing so we wont mess up the inner cv joint.

i pushed it by holding the shaft and have it a 'nudge of rage' while squatting on the wheel side and it made 'clank' sound, its very hard to push at the inner joint casing even with the highest jackstand config.

I originally had a d series engine in mine so i dont have anything to compare it to

I can get the shaft in no problem but it just aint the right size it seems, with the shaft installed correctly i can only see the first couple of threads on the hub nut side of the shaft
