I've got an itch for a DC5, I couldn't afford one when I bought my '9 buy if I split it now I can get one.

Any of you guys had one then come back to another Honda? I still enjoy my '9 but in two minds.

A buddy is going to show me round his Sunday, he has moved up from a FN2 and never had a EK9 so he's going to be pretty biased.

Any opinions?

Depends what you what, do you feel the EK9 is not refined enough for road use anymore, do you want a B road blaster, do you want a package out of the box you do not have to mod, do you want a track toy.

Its hard to compare the two, I've had an EK9, a few DC2s and 3 DC5s. For me, if it was a daily i would take the DC5, its far more refined, yet still capable. As a standard car its quite boring compared to the a EK9 or DC2, but once you put on a few bolt ons it does become a different animal.

Id say go drive one, you might like it you might not. IMO the EK9 is still the best handling FWD Honda ever made.

Precisely what this guy says. I have had both, still have the dc5 (for sale section), but the reality is I have never required my ek9 to out handle the dc5 on public roads, or to handle in a way that the dc5 cannot. Maybe on a track the ek9 can turn in better and manoeuvre better, but for any type of road driving both cars are more than capable. The power & torque delivery in the dc5 is immense as well as having comfort, great looks, and all the refinements inside that you would need.

I'd like to get another ek9 again, but not because the dc5 lacks anything, but just because I get bored and miss the 9. Not a bad word to say about the dc5!

Exactly as mentioned, for the fun factor and raw driving experience without a lot of comfort it has to be an ek9 or dc2

For a daily driver, better torque, 6-speed and a quieter more comfortable drive the DC5 would get my vote

I've owned an Ek9 now for 6 months. Previously i've had and EP3, DC2, VTi Civic, Prelude JDM Si, CRX SiR.

I drove the DC5 for the first time a few months back. It's the most disappointing fast Honda I've driven. Lots of understeer, numb steering, no real kick in VTEC and no real sense that you're connected to the tarmac. It was fast but not particularly exciting.

Saying that, I've heard they are very different with some basic breather mods and suspension.

I have also driven a dc5 and it is solid enough as an all round car but as above, it lacks a certain something that dc2s/ek9s have in spades, particularly in the corners.

As a daily driver, my ek9 is proving to be very pleasant compared to the dc2s I have had. The only thing is I guess a K20A has a lot more potential if you plan to modify a dc5.

No mordern honda will ever love up to the ek9/dc2 in the raw factor 90% of us don't buy a honda for comfort we buy them to drive hard..depends what your after realy and you will never know unless you jump in one and give it ago

I don't really need a daily, work is within walking distance but the comfort would be nice though.

Hopefully my buddy will let me take his for a spin hes only just had his though so I'll take passenger and see how it feels.

You really need to drive one, my mate had one and it seemed to under steer through tight corners where old ek9/dc2s etc would corner with ease

It feels heavier (because it is) and not as raw and exciting as the older generation Hondas

They seem harder to sell on as well which I think is due to the fact that they can be very hard to insure for some people

For comfort, ease of driving, plenty of power and good handling... Not to mention how sexy they look I would own one any day!

I'd my first EK9 for about a year sold it and got a DC2 moved to DC5 which i sold last month and got another EK9. The DC5 are a lovely car but as said i prefer the handling of a 9 i do miss the torque of the DC5 they are a better cruiser obviously bigger engine and 6 speed box but I never really enjoyed driving it the way I do the EK9s. Guess its down to personal preference but even as a daily driver i just prefer the EK9

You're asking the wrong forum haha.

Now sell me your EK9 :D

You have both hit the nail on the head here. I have owned two 9s and now own a DC5, the EK9 put a much bigger smile on my face that's for sure. The 5 just isn't as much fun to drive imo. The 9 just feels so raw, its an amazing little car.

I currently own an ep3, dc5, ek9 and a 450hp dc2. For me the dc5 is a stunning car and nice to drive but definetly lacks the 'feel' of the dc2 and ek9. Personally I think my dc2 handles a fair bit better than my ek9. The dc5 is everything I bought it for though, a comfy daily, my ears are ringing after a drive in my dc2 as it's all stripped so it's nice to have a comfy car that looks nice and goes well

I'll have a look around the DC5s at Mimms and going to have a go in a friend's on Sunday see how I feel. Insurance was only a small increase.

i love my dc5, its my first honda so i cant compare to an ek9. always wanted an ek9 though but this popped up and i swapped an 06 plate golf for it. would never look back. no intention of selling it now ive spent a fortune on it but its still not where i want it to be, buts its getting close

its currently off the road but when its back on with the new final drive and other bits it will be far from tame. ( not that it ever was)
