So we're now post Mimms so it's time for a title change.

Mimms was epic.

Went down the night before and stayed with this guy, lead singer of a band called Bring me the Horizon, you should check them out...

While Oli was out I decided to try on the Rays wheels he had sat in the garage

Very much wanted to take them home but couldn't twist his arm enough to sell them. Sexy sexy wheels though.

Standard cleaning with Zak, who owns the best Jordan I've seen, and is going to sell me his Recaro pole position for a very reasonable price  (I hope :p)

Big big thanks to Pwizzle for evening out my coil overs. Mans a hero...

brilliant day out, was good to put names to faces from the Honda internet friends I've made over the years :)

After a long day I headed home with some Honda friends who live near me.

Of course, I wouldn't go all that way south without getting some parts ;)

Moroso Sump, 19 row oil cooler + thermostatic sandwich plate and hard race rear toe and camber arms, all from Alex on here.

Had a quick test fit of the cooler (this is where the quick release comes in handy!) ITS A BEAST.

Ordered some Millers 10w-40 oil too, if it arrives before the weekend I'll aim to get it all done. Hoping for good weather!

Cheers

Okay time for a proper update. Federal RSRs now fitted and a change of colour on the wheels :)

Will just let the pictures do the talking! Big thanks to my mate Will who did a full drive in drive out job in one evening for me. Top work too. I'm not allowed to say who, but he works for a very reputable company in Leeds. Some of the cars in the workshop were amazing, and somehow me and a Suzuki Jimny squeezed in

So, before:

Really nasty stuff the acid. I'm told you need to be careful of the timing, and if left long enough in there, the alloy would simply disappear! (Ok we're talking a very long time there, but still!)

I went for satin black, with a matt lacquer to tone it down slightly. I originally wanted flat matt black, but was persuaded otherwise... I'm certainly glad I didn't go matt black. This looks so damn good now they've dried.

It was a productive evening to say the least.

Bad news though unfortunately. Whilst the wheels were getting done I got under the car to see if I could figure out where the exhaust was blowing. It's from the manifold are somewhere, but not sure where exactly. Not impressed, it really does sound cack on full throttle at the minute. I'm sorely tempted to just sack it off and buy a brand new item from Tegiwa or Skunk2. I'd be interested to know if anyone on here has either of those?

I was on track today, the car went really well, but unfortunately developed a problem early on forcing retirement, but I'll get to that.

First off, I headed to Grinspeed on Friday to get my geometry done. Stevie had a certain aura about him that I've not met many blokes with, and he had my trust with the car from the start.

Seeing how he set the car up was a shock at first, lasers can be unreliable he said, string never lies...

The car feels pretty damn good. It was way out before, nothing was even. Toe in out camber all uneven etc. All sorted now and drives great!

Sunday came and I started doing a bit of track day prep. I removed my Snap Off steering wheel boss as I was sick of it being so close to my face. Being a bit taller, it stuck out too much.

One thing I didn't expect to have to do was to replace my centre silencer. Whilst at Grinspeed I asked that he inspect an exhaust rattle and he said the centre baffle was ****ed to be kind.

Luckily I had a spare B pipe with a silencer on there.

I took it over to Slide motorsport who managed to, on a Sunday afternoon, get it sorted for me.

Was a perfect fit as well, which I was worried about with the triangle end needing to be perfect to make sure the rear fitted too. They did a great job!

Whilst I was waiting for the exhaust to be fixed, I had 'one of those ideas'

After getting it back together I headed out for some pics with my mate Rich (the guy with the now 43k DC2)

It's been a while since I've taken some 'proper' pics :)

I also got a camera phone video of the new exhaust/intake sound. Not the best quality but gives you an idea..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtOA7vNncRM

I went to bed very happy that night, with the car and where I'm at with it it. Today was a bit different, but on the whole, I'm still chuffed to bits.

So, the track day.

Up at 5:30 and out for 6:15am to be up at Teeside before briefing at 8am.

As the street was quiet, I took a quick pic of my two cars together for perhaps the first time I think

EDED7176-623B-439A-832A-6C3C6B980E5E_zpspzqk8ftw.jpg

Anyway, got through the briefing etc and held off going on track for 30minutes or so. Let all the nutters get it out of their system I thought

So after checking all my fluid wheel nuts etc I headed out for my first lap. As I was coming down the pits ready to join, an RS6 flew past me. A good marker as any on a track like Teeside.. so I used him as a pace car for a bit.

The RS6 was bloody quick in a straight line, but on a small track like Teeside, he had no advantage on the DC2. I was a lot faster, and despite him knowing this, he wouldn't pull over to let me overtake. The car was all over the shop trying to shake the DC2 off. I've never seen an RS6 dance like that, imagine a fat lass after 10 pints of Stella, where the DC2 just stayed composed and smooth right on it's tail 8)

After 3 or so laps of being on his rear bumper and growing tired, I decided to take a cool down lap to let him get ahead enough of me that I could push into corners without fear of bumping him!

Anyway, half way through my cooling lap, I saw him in the wall. The circuit was red flagged and we all pulled into the pics. This was the result:

Go easy out there! Especially if you're trying to outrun a DC2 in a car as large as that on a tight track. The lad was gutted obviously, I can't see that being a cheap or easy fix.

Anyway, after the aftermath of that had settled I headed back out for some more laps with my mate in passenger. We had 4 or 5 very fast laps, passing a VX220 and an Ibiza Cupra. He was videoing on his camera with a wide angle lens, so when it's uploaded I'll post it.

Honda Integra DC2 by Kurt Blythman, on Flickr

Unfortunately then disaster struck. Pulling out of a tight right hander I felt severe wheel wobble, as if my wheel was about to drop off! I quickly pulled into the pits, and with a bit (lot) of help from various people we diagnosed the half shaft bearing was goosed. It had collapsed completely, and while in gear while lifted up was creating enough force to move the engine side to side slightly.

One of the lads got on the phone to a breaker in Bishop Auckland to see what he had, and we went across to pick up another shaft for a tenner. Got back and fitted the shaft for around 3pm.

Honda Integra DC2 by Kurt Blythman, on Flickr

Unfortunately, although the bearing was obviously much better, it wasn't perfect, and I still have a slight vibration when cornering hard while accelerating, any more track time would have been stupid - so I called it a day there.

Limped the car home (80 miles ish) staying off the motorways, took around 2 hours but the car made it fine.

All that said, I'm still very happy with how the car performed on those first couple of sessions. All the time, money and more money have 'paid' off - emotionally at least.

Now just to get that shaft replaced properly. £186 for a brand new Yunaka OE replacement, which is apparently uprated. Although a breaker has messaged me saying he has a mint one for £30. Always tempting when something is 1/6th of the cost used. Might be worth a punt! Can the bearing not just be replaced? Now that I have a spare shaft at least!

Check your inner cv joint on your passenger driveshaft. I had a similar problem on a DC2 a few years ago where the inner cv roller bearings were jamming on their runners inside the cv cup, this caused the shaft not to move in and out and the engine ended up moving left and right instead causing a wobbling feeling from the front end.

I bought a new inner cv cup from Honda to replace the worn one on the car which cured the problem

Yeah I'm thinking it could be that. I never checked if it was greased just installed it - for all i know it's fitted dry

Just read through the whole thread, awesome build mate, hats off to you for doing most of the work yourself aswell. Car looks great :nice:

I really want to go to Brands mate for sure. I want to do it this year too. You going? Evening sesh?

Yeah defo an evening session.
Need to check the cooling on mine, plus screamer pipe might get me kicked off so don't want to pay full day to last afew laps lol

Phenominal Work being done here!
Really good looking dc2 man!

I'd like to say this thread is overdue an update but not a lot has gone on lately. I was meant to be buying an E46 M3 in July but unfortunately was made redundant the same week.

Slowly getting back on track now and have quite a nice update coming this week :)
