Just a quick one guys..

Where is the location of the vtec solenoid on the d15b engine?

And how can i manually check if it is still working/functioning?

Does the d15b have an ECU? Where is it located?

What ecu normally comes with the d15b engine?

How can i identify the type of ecu installed on my car?

Sorry for the noob questions..i have a very little knowledge on honda engines, but i am willing to learn:blinx:
:thanks: for the replies

thanks for the reply sir..i have already read that article..

ur vtec is fine mate, there is practically no crossover on them cars.

il check for ecu codes at weekend for u on the missus del sol.

i owned a D15b vtec that i swapped into my ballade 150i. if you have bought a car with the engine swapped in already, ask the seller what ecu he used. every single car has an ecu(Fuel Injected cars) Otherwise afaik the ecu will be located under the passenger side kick panel if stock..
as for the vtec, it may be working, but on the d15b you dont feel a kick, you will hear the change over tho at the rpm where it has ben set, mine was 5500. i loved my old D15b, was great fun...
the solenoid is just behind the dizzy, heres apic of mine, i have circled the solenoid for you.(under the breather pipe.)

thanks very much skar..it really helped a lot with those pics..

by the way would you happen to know what is the normal(factory setting) RPM when the vtec kicks in on the d15b engine? i really cant hear when the vtec sets in on my car coz i have the scav muffler and it is way too loud to distinguish it..but im planning to change it tho..

d15b is a 3 stage vtec engine. under a certain rpm its only 12 valve, then 16 valve then eventually into vtec.

u can indeed hear when u are in vtec but there is no "loud vtec kicked in y0 JDM b18c" crossover on these cars.

il find out the crossover for you tonight lol.

Nuno.

@ Nuno@mer. Not all D15B SOHC vtec motors are 3 stage vtecs. the JDM D15B is a normal 2 stage motor.

the cross over is at 5500 rpm., however if its a transplant with different/aftermarket ECU it could be anywhere lol.

heres a youtube vid of my old car the day i got it baclk from the tuners. if you listen carefully, you will here the vtec crossover at 5500 in second gear. like i said, on the D15B motors, they are audible at the very best, you dont feel them at all. and its not like this bwaaaAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH - its more like a change in engine tone really. the reason i say second gear is cos i had a longer ratio box which made the car fall outa vtec 1-2-3 and 4-5. to better hear the sound in that vid once it has loaded and you have watched it, click on about 19/20 secs in and repaet the plaay back from then until about 22 secs in the change over is about half way through the twentieth second.

0-120 check - YouTube

hope it helps.

my bad, yes u are right.

i will try get some video myself this weekend to help this thread out.

thanks skar and nuno..yes i noticed the vtec sets in around 20seconds of the video..

i used to have a 4door civic with b16a engine and i must say when the vtec kicks in on the b16 it really kicks in and you would really hear the vtec sound..i guess i got used to the sound of the b16 thats why i dont feel it that much on the d15..

but still i am learning..and willing to learn.

dont worry bru when i started i swapped the d15b in i thought i was gonna get the traditional vtec kick and sound, but barely even got it - must say i wasnt too happy about that although i enjoyed my d15b.. when i moved to b16a i was in heaven so i think i get what you mean if i was to swap it around lol.

have you discovered where your vtec is coming in?

i havent tried it yet due to busy schedule..i will update as soon as my schedule clears..i will also manually check my vtec if it functions. by the way would you happen to know if the tranny from the vti would perfectly fit to the d15b engine?

thanks again fro the reply..ill update ASAP.
