hello all been away for a bit, went to rome, wow they are nutters on the road, prang after prang after prang.

anyway

my cv boot has got a hole in it and i need to change it, will driving with a split CV boot damage my drive shaft?
and is it a big job to fix,

i have seen some boots that is open one side and you glue it up but i would rather have a proper one,

any advise would be great,

thanks people.

yes, absolutely, it will destroy the cv joint. the boot is there to keep the grease around the CV joint, with a torn boot your gonna splash grease all over the place (on your wheels, shocks, springs, etc...) and the CV joint will dry up, start to make clack clack noise and then eventually lock up which is an easy way to crash your car :nono:

is it a big job to fix,

it depends if you have the tools and experience, to me its a pain, but i have friends that can do it in 20 minutes, i can do it, i just dont like doing it.

never heard of that, but i wouldent trust it. also i suggest you replace the entire CV shaft, aka axle, aka driveshaft aka cv joint.

all depends how long it has been like that and weather etc will play a part in how bad the joint is looking.
what blinx said is right...it needs to be sorted..i know how to do it but wouldnt want to as if you ask me its a pain in the arse and messy.lol.

id say give it to a gargage..should be 2 hours tops..they may say the joint is fine...clean and regrease it and put a new boot on.. worst case i have had in the past is just needing a new cv joint and gator

cv joints are a pain in the ass i hate doin them an i hate that messy cv joint grease it gets EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!if u havent got any experiance doin them get a friend that does to show u or bring it to a garage.
