I was driving along and a pheasant ran out on me, I was doing over a tonne and it shredded itself in my radiator. I soon pulled over to check of any damage and the pheasant was minced all in my rad. I then dag it all out and saw the car was leaking coolant and radiator was knocked off the lug it sits in.

So I drove home while stopping once to let it cool down as the temperature gauge started to rise. It probably raised to 3 1/4 of the way up the oil temperature gauge so only 1/4 up from normal. I sourced a new rad and installed it, the car was ticking over after the installation and suddenly it stalled. After this the car wouldn't start. We realised the car wasn't giving any spark but is definitely getting fuel, so we set about replacing different parts trying to figure out the problem. We checked all fuses & brought new spark plugs and dizzy cap as the dizzy is still spinning. There is no power coming out of the leads?

So does anybody have any idea what it could be, I've towed it to Honda and they couldn't find an error code in the free 15 minute diagnostic they offer 'surprise surprise'. I'm picking up a new ignition coil tomorrow and see if that helps.

If anybody has any suggestions then please let me know.

Thanks

You most likely need a new coil or the whole dizzy, depending on whether you can be bothered taking your dizzy apart. Remember you will need to set the timing after you've re-installed the dizzy.

Would you need to set the timing after installing a new ignition coil as its behind the dizzy as far as I'm aware?

No, there's no engine management light on.

No, there's no engine management light on.

As long as you haven't disturbed the position of the distributor (3 bolts) then you dont need to adjust anything.

If you have removed the dizzy completely you will have had to replaced it in the same orientation, but however how far advanced/retarded it should still run, it will then need to be timed in using a timing gun.

It turned out it was the ignition coil, I took the motor to my local Honda garage and took advantage of the free 15 minute diagnostic they offered. Surprise surprise, no error fault codes came in the free 15 minutes they gave and they insisted they needed at least another hour to at a rate of £120ph + 20% VAT. I was quite disgusted at their attitudes in there as I drive a EK4 VTi and I got the impression they just couldn't be bothered to work on an older model of car.

I then proceeded to order a new ignition coil as I was confident it would be that left after buying new spark plus and a dizzy cap.

I replaced the ignition coil and started her up, first time she coughed and spluttered into life stinking of fuel. I let her run for a few minutes and she sounded right as rain again, nothing beats that feeling of having your car working again after a month of not hearing her.

Cheers for the advice
