Thought I'd start a thread.

My car is insured as a vti-R japanese import worth £5500.

Does that sound ok? I didn't want to mess about with the insuance so I made sure they insured it correctly.
I told them the car was an ek9 civic type r and the documents came throuh with vti-R on it..

Anyone have a similar story?

I had a right battle with my insurance on my 9.
They could t find it on ther system, nothing unusual ther.
So I go through the details of the car. And they ask if its a vtec. I said yes its a civic type r with vtec.
They came back and said they couldn't insure me. But after a long fight I managed to get insured. Yet thought it was a vtec r? Instead of a type r

Nope.
That's not the correct model. :/
I wouldn't be happy with that...

Ahh perhaps it was vtec R not vtiR as I previously said (thread fail)

Haven't looked at the documents for a few weeks

Yeah I had to keep telling them all imported ek9s have vtec lol
Went to the underwriters in the end who decided I was right.

This is the problem with grey imports. Plus ek9 where never made in the uk so they are only a few companies that have insured them before know the right details on them.

Mine is a grey import and on systems as a Civic Type R 1.6

All depends on if the importer has imported it correctly, of they have it will come up as a type r

I think a lot come up as a vti as people registered it like that for cheaper insurance is guess, stupid likes

Luckily mines comes up as a civic type r

All the paper work says civic typer just wasn't on my insurers system,

Wonder what would happen If I needed to claim off the insurance though? Would they take blame or refuse payment? My v5 just says 1.6 civic :/

This is another argument I had with them, that they've insured loads of people as having a different car to what they have, or just not understanding that the type r is vtec.

Pretty poor tbh really isn't it, god help them if I crash or anything, I made sure they knew it was a type r and that it isn't a vti or worth under 5k lol..

Id definately check that the insurer have it listed as a Type R model as the VTi has a different ABi insurance code. (the code that determins the insurance group).

The 1.6 Civic Type R is listed on the ABi groupings so you could ask if they could amend it to that?

If you are still concerned and was thinking of looking for a different policy id be happy to organise you a quote. We are very competitive on the EK9's and can include any modifications.

We can also offer Track day cover at £45 per day.

If you cover less than 7500 miles it could qualify for our reduced mileage discount where premiums can be as low as £212 fully comp.

If you wanted me to take a look at running a quote even if its just to give you an idea you could either call me at the office on 01277 376000 or drop me a PM with your contact number and i'll call you personally.

Best Regards

The EK9 should show on your documents. These vehicles are usually better off specialist insurers, feel free to get in touch with us.

Cheers guys,
The ek9 vin number is on the v5, if I still have the car come renewal time I'll be in touch!
