Hey guys, since joining the forum a few weeks ago i have been thinking about where to buy an Ek9. Id love to import one directly from Japan and be the first owner in Ireland but id be a little bit nervous about doing that as i like to see and drive a car before handing over my money. So i have decided to take a trip to Japan towards the end of the year and possibly buy one over there. I have been looking up garages and auction houses online but i dont know what ones have good or bad reputations. Does anybody have any experience or advice or even know of reputable companies over there that could help me get my Ek9? Any help will be greatly appreciated. :)

i imported mine.and also a rx7 from bonsaicars.com.thay will help you

autoadvan all the way mate...very nice guys to deal with and will keep you informed of everything along the way..even if you have stupid questions to ask..as for auction houses.you wont be able to get into them yourself as they are private business based things i believe. as for garages..all the ones i spoke to or emailed seem to be massively overpriced compared to the auctions etc.

go with auto advan and i dont think you wil regret anything..stay away from new era imports.

Did either of you not feel a bit nervous about buying a car that you have never seen or driven? :nono: I found a site called GrahamBerry2.co.jp. and they say that they will bring you along to the auction houses over there and you are allowed to check out the cars before bidding on them? Anyone ever heard of them?

even if you dont go over to japan to see the car it will still be in better condition than if you bought it here in ireland cos they treat cars lik shite over here but i got mine straght in from japan and it was actally better than what i had hoped but your right to want to go over to drive the car first

Private Imports 2008 - Cars and parts from Japan

John and Dave will source you an EK9 to the spec you provide (or as close as possible) and will supply you with as many detailed photos as you want before you make your decision. granted you cant drive it but thats the very minimal risk you take when importing a car and being first uk owner. Saying that if there is any problems with the car John will do everything he can to get it Mint for you.

Few owners on here could vouch for them, steven EK9, Daz_ek9 and myself :)

I admire your determination though...there are people from england who wont travle to scotland to buy a car...never mind japan! haha

Ha ha! Thanks man! Im just determined to get the cleanest possible Ek9 that i can! :D And ive always wanted to go to Japan so i thought why not try and buy one there aswell. That would be pretty cool! Im looking for a completely standard 00 facelift one. Not too concerned about mileage just once its in mint condition. Do you have any pictures of your own car? Where are the guys at Private Imports based?

theres no point in getting an ek9 from japan at the moment in ireland in my opinion...the market is flooded with them and you will get them cheap here...plus with the market the way it is for second hand cars at the moment ur likely to get a vvvery clean one for good money

Unless ur lookin for a track spec or a highly modded one.;

At the minute you will pay REDICULOUS money for one form Japan due to the POUND being so weak against the yen! its roundabout double from auction what it was when I imported my EK9 in mid-2007!

You'll be best either seeing an importer like Dunx etc on here and viewing their stock.

Otherwise I'd hazard a LONG wait till you get more yen for your £. the good thing may be that UK dealers stop importing for the minute due to the currency, this would eventually help bring the export price down! But I wouldnt hold my breathe for too long or too much.

Good luck finding a nice one! :nice:

what the guys say about the exchange rate is bang on..its really not the time to be buying...but saying that people may not be buying becuase of that so you may bag a bargain through luck and right time right place etc.

as for buying a car you havent seen..your still safer than buying a car from someone over here that you can see ifyou ask me. you will always get a few battered examples of cars and of course you dont own a car like a 9 if you arent gonna open it up now and again etc. but for 1 they dont salt their roads so rust shouldnt be a real factor at all. from what i have read and heard the service intervals are stuck to alot better than people over here. and the only reason you get so many cars being sold is that they are so strict about retesting etc toi keep crap off the road.its not because they are bangers that need shifting.

i havent heard of anyone whos had serious problems with their cars. of course if you got for one thats fully modified etc then you could probably expect thats its been raced or driven hard at some point..maybe something to consider..but you cant ignore that this could happen to any car.

alot of people worry but theres not alot to worry about.u could buy a car over here and as soon as you start it the next day the cambelt or anything could go. its all luck whatever you do.

Ah yeah i know its a risk buying a car anywhere and something could fail a few days after you have bought it but thats the chance you take. As a mechanic by trade im not worried because when i buy a car i give it a full service no matter what the seller has done. Id be changing the timing belt etc for peace of mind and then i dont have to worry about it. The most important thing to me is that i can see the car in person and drive it before i buy it. At least i can do that when im in Japan and then make my mind up. I know the exchange rates arent great at the moment but as you said i could get lucky and get a mint one for a good price. Not looking for a modified one at all. Want something completely standard. :)
