will hopefully have a new member of the family soon, a dc5, but having never owned one is there anything i should be looking out for? any common problems with them?

Will be doing all the usual tests and checks but just wanted to hear from some dc5 owners

Cheers

Rust on the Rear Arches
Rust in the Engine Bay
Rust in the Boot Where the Roof bars meet the rear
Rust in the Door Shuts

Check for Heavy Clutch's Obviously, No Smoke in Vtec

Damaged Seat Cushions

Check the Oil !!!

I have had 2, one was Nice but one was a complete heap

Also check for slight hesitation when underload, which is usally a lambor problem, i have owned two also and they great cars, only thing that let them down is the handerling as there on mcfearson struts not double wishbones like ek, dc2, s2k.

I have one, just be smart and don't rush into it as with anycar. There is some proper sheds about for the same money as decent ones. I would say go for a fresh import or a one that's got kpro etc etc

thanks for the help guys il take everything on board, am i right in saying 5 - 6k is about right for a well looked after dc5 on decent mileage?

@B18C'R EK ... naa m8 she's going nowhere :)) wanting it for your sir collection areya lol?

you might want to go a bit higher than that for a real good one

i'd value mine atleast 6k mines about 90k on it

i would say buy on condition and service/maintenance history over mileage.

lamda sensor and antiroll bar droplinks are the most common problems i can think of

the central locking is a common issue with these dc5's

when i had mine they needed replacing, its an actuator that is the problem.

other than that you need to look out for the rear light seals(leaky boot),

you will be really happy with the dc5. i sold my dc5 for an s2000 but will be going back to a dc5 in the winter. theyre amazing cars! very comfy too :)

and be prepared to pay at-least £7500 for a good example one!

You definatly wont find a decent one for 6k. I sold my old one for 8k because it was literally mint, with 88,000 kilometers (48,000 miles). It sold with in 11 hours. Remember there cheap for a reason!!

^^ thats right, i sold mine near that region as i wanted the cash really quick as there was an s2k i couldn't miss! mine was a minty fresh one too!

only way you'll find one really cheap is if anyone needs the cash really quick.

Check for radiation on the fresh imports..

Everything covered really I would just say rust, clutch, gearbox and oil. Everything else is pretty simple to sort out. All the obvious checks you should make with any purchase.

I would say more like 7.5k-8k for a standard decent one.

8k-9k for decent one with good mods

Don't get hooked on what mileage is. A 2002 car with 40k miles doesn't mean it's better looked after than a 2002 car with 80k. Does a car no good being day around doing nothing.

^ this. Plus a lot of cold starts aren't great. Low miles usually means more time spent cold because they don't drive enough miles to get the car up to temp.
Obviously there are exceptions like weekend cars.

lol that good mate keep that baby, an i dont mind buying it if thinking of selling it lol

wow thought they had come down in price but guess not, 11 hours to sell a dc5 that must of been one clean car!

Makes sense to go for good service history over mileage so il defo keep that in mind, il double check central locking and the leaky boot seems common with every honda ive owned so nothing new there

"Check for radiation on the fresh imports.."

radiation??! if i grow another head il be taking the car back!
