I think its time to move out of the civic scene and get myself something more refined.

I'm seriously contemplating breaking my car for parts and I was wondering if anybody had any rough price guides - any advice for posting all the items etc.

Thanks

Joe

I want to keep it as a general price guide at the moment mate rather than making this thread about my car, if that makes sense!

I want to be able to have a rough figure I can make before I start it.

Link to build thread or spec? :)

I didn't know if it had many desirable parts.
So your just looking for price parts for ek9 parts?
I don't even know what car you have...?

EK4 VSM Year 2000 Facelift
15inch Rota Slips - Matt Black with Paradaspec2's (mint condition)
Mint condition black recaros on EK9 rails
EK9 carbon spoiler
2.5' custom stainless exhaust system with a spoon N1 rep backbox (2000 miles max)
Brand new discs and pads all round

It won't take me long to split the car down but I have no idea on prices, for example like how much for panels, boot lid, bonnet, brakes, stock EK4 suspension, subframe, driveshafts, engine loom, carpet, rearseats, EK4 dash, EK4 dials, Hubs, Gearbox, Shell etc etc

I know this isnt to do with prices but if you are splitting soon, I would be interested in the slips :p

Take a look about the for sale section at the prices of parts there, take into account condition of parts and the current retail price - you will soon be able to price up the parts, no point in getting someone else to do it for you

Main thing with breaking a car is to be patient, you will get endless lowballs for parts, you will know yourself that some stuff is worth letting go of for less than other parts

Made 15.5k back breaking my EK9, as sad as it is to tear a car apart it's taken so long to build, it's the best way to make the most money

I was just looking through them steven - think I can make sensible estimations from those.

Thanks mate.

Joe

I've broken an EK9 and could post up the prices i've sold things for. To be honest, I don't think it's relevant to your EK4 as it's only the EK9 specific parts that brought the money in on mine.

Great advice.

this would be interesting to see. Items that actually brought in some money (other than the obvious) and those that didn't.

This is the list of what i've sold things for, most have been adjusted to include ebay fees but not all.

Hubs + brakes £250
Rear ARB £65
Carpet £80
Speedo £140
Carbon dash £55
Doorcards £125
Steering wheel £115
Rear seats and electric window £65
Spoiler £140
electric window mech £30
Exhaust £115
front arb £25
servo £70
spoon ecu £250
pedals £20
loweing springs £100
shocks £65
c-bar £15
wind deflectors £25
recaro's £360
steering rack £75
bumpers + skirts + headlights £285
boot lid £50
wheels (rota grid) £250
£2745

(i've still got the engine, box, driveshafts, Apexi AFC, Apexi AVC-R, cat, de-cat, electric mirrors and a few bits of trim left to sell). The car owed me £3400 at the time I decided to break it. I should see a small profit but not enough for it to have been worth the hassle really. It's been a slow burner. It has got me out of a situation I didn't want to be in (saddled with a money pit of a car that was a dog)

As you can see, pretty much all of that list is EK9 specific parts. I left quite a lot of body panels, interior parts on the shell when I got rid of it. People only want the EK9 stuff really and all the parts I left on the shell weren't EK9 specific.

I suppose it's all down to the spec and condition on yours. A lot of my parts were cheaper than I see for sale as they weren't mint condition (steering wheel was a bit worn, exhaust was beaten up, wheels were in need of a refurb, etc)

Hope this helps.

That's how it went, as you can see, still a few quid in it at that point.

I had interest in it but nothing came through quick enough, some people wanted it rolling, some with interior, etc. It was too far stripped by the that time.

I was breaking it on my parents drive so I didn't want an eyesore laid up for too long. The fact it was Irish registered meant more cost and hassle to get it legal in the UK.

Don't blame you then mate, especially it just being layer on your parents drive not a good sight lol
