im just curious so dont hate :)

im boosting my 9 and have intercooler and pipes but wouldnt mind new ones.
browsing ebay as you do and theres alot of universal intercoolers and pipe for around £170

what i want to know is why do people hate so much?
surly the pipes are the same as any other pipes, and whats so **** about the coolers. e.g one says rated to 400bhp and 45psi. i just dont understand the price of a forge one! my mate paid £400 for a cooler alone and looks no different!!

can anyone actually give me proof they are complete dog turd?

say it again just curious :)

I keep clear of universal crap tbh mate, IMO you wouldnt buy universal brake discs..

i understand that, i just cant see whats wrong with them, im staying away, just curious mate

Generally made from super cheap materials and crap quality. Almost never fit together as stated.

You would be surprised how different Coolers differ in their ability to Cool the air. Buying from a reputable manufacture means your paying for tried and tested parts not just **** thrown together to make money on ebay.

Would say is hit or miss on quality and if they fit. Doubt they will last that long and likely not to have flanged ends.

Mate bought one for his turbo dc2 but once he started upping the boost a bit the rubber/silicon joints just didn't hold onto the pipes. Tried clamping them tighter but cracked a few. Think he gave up and made his own out of old Impreza piping

seen some with flared ends, couldnt you get someone to weld them? few people can weld aluminium!
im currently looking for a company to make mine, cant find one though ha

Go-Autoworks do inter cooler kits. That's where I'm getting all my stuff from.

Got a great rep and he will do custom stuff too.

There is nothing wrong with the universal intercoolers, they are popular with 200SX's and do fine power wise.

I think it's the Honda brand whore attitude more than anything else. How much power are you after?

I'd personally buy a decent sized core and then work out the pipe work you'll need.

I fitted few of toyosorts and japspeed kits to different cars like Subaru and Toyota never had an issues with them.
all around 3-350 bhp ,guess if you had huge power on them then dearer ones would cool better.

This ^^^^

Brand whoring in the Honda market is getting as bad as VW scene.

A piece of 90degree stainless elbow is just that!! Same goes for a straight piece.

Comparing boost pipes to brake disks is like apples n pears.

Just my 2p

What size if intercooler would be good? Iv got someone to make me one. But my mate is after one for his z20let Astra van!

With such limited space with civics, custom is really the best and fastest way to run intercooler pipes...I would think. ;)

universal does not apply to civics. lol

True statment. I had one (Godspeed if I remember right) on my S13 and saw just as much out of it as a Greddy on my Eclipse. Never had any problems and never had any complaints about it.

I'm not too sure about the piping.

I'm no expert but i haven't heard anyone mention the following yet.

CFM and Pressure drop off... as far as i am aware there is a quite precise science to getting the right intercooler for the right application.. not always biggest is best..

.

Pipes are pipes, although mandrel bent ones will flow better and I wouldn't fit any that didn't have swaged ends if running high boost. Cores on the other hand are where the quality really shows. The guy who made mine builds them for touring cars where the core alone is £1000 before you have even shown it to a welder.
