Hello lads.

Ive come into a bit of bother recently with my B18c EK3. :(

The car was running like a gem when i bought it at the start of June. Bought it of bencrx and hondacivic028 on here, Top blokes.

I then bought an ECU that i thought was a Spoon ECU, I found out that it was a chipped ECU that had a Rally map on it.
it was running unbelievable, it had so much pull through the gears and revved right round to 9100k, engine braking tho was a lot more aggressive compared to stock which was pants.

a few weeks after my Battery light started to flash and eventually threw the belt, So i changed the belt. it was fine for a few days then i noticed a horrible disgusting smell. I was driving along one day and had enough of it, opened the bonnet to see the battery was bubbling acid from the top of the cells.

Checked the voltage and i was amazed to find it charging at 19.3v   Enough to charge a bloody 40ft.
The car was then parked up for a day or so till i could get time to put a new alternator cause the obviously the voltage regulator was fried.

one of the days i went out and jump started the car to move it as it was in the road and BOOM, it blew up in my face, lucky enough i was wearing safety glasses. Replaced the battery with another used battery and it started fine, but it fried my radio. Didn't blow any fuse, just fried the radio.

So on i went and changed the alternator and a for piece of mind stuck on another new belt.

i replaced the ECU with the stock one also, it was driving fine with no nasty smells or lights flashing or any problems. Ive had it parked up the last two weeks as im saving for some toys. but tonight i went out to go for a spin and the battery was dead again, thinking, "yea its been parked up for two weeks thats to be expected" i threw on the jump cables, connected to my dads car and sparks jumped as it connected the last cable.

i instantly noticed that the positive terminal was smoking and the cable was heating up LOTS within a few seconds.

THE CABLES WHERE DEFINITELY ON THE CORRECT TERMINALS

so confused cause it was fine before i parked it up.

Heres a few pics i took of the positive lead comming of the battery....

Voltage wise? - I didnt check as i wanted the power cut to it asap before any damage was done.

Didnt have a new battery at the time. Ill have to get one but i dont see how it will cure it when the previous battery was working fine with it.

Possibly a bad earth somewhere?

Im thinking your battery is shorted out within the battery. Damaged battery.

I try a new battery tomorrow.

Tho the previous battery done the same thing. And this battery was working perfectly fine in my brothers EK4

Very strange then.

Are you 100% positive that you have your wires going to the correct terminal?

110% Tama

Even done it in the correct order to ensure the battery wasn't going to explode again

ill try thicker leads and report back lee...

Tho my leads are pretty thick :S

would suggest that something isn't connected right, poor earth or something.

either that or something is shorting out somewhere, but not enough to pop any fuses (unless something has been hard wired without a fuse....)

take out anything that is non standard as best you can. check all fuses and make sure they havent been bypassed/hardwired/replaced. Make sure that all fuses are the CORRECT SIZE, if they're too big then you could be drawing far more through the cabling than is safe.

Looks like a serious problem, I've been searching for some replacement batteries for a friend. Haven't been able to find any as of yet - I will look for some later.

x2 this!

Well lads,

i borrowed a set of leads from work, I build forklifts so, these have to pretty dam heavy duty ones. Connected them up... NOTHING.

So went, got a new battery.. Connected it up.. NOTHING.

looked around, checked all my grounds, all where tight on to the body.
took out my hardwired fog.

i got a new battery loom, that runs from the Positive to the fusebox and starter as the old one looked quite tatty. Ill get that on on sat and see if it help something.

Still confused tho as to why it fried my radio? surely there the fuse for it would blow before the radio?

Thanks for the info guys, im sure we will get it sorted some how.

Radio is fried because there is a short someplace is my guess, under the dash.
