Hi all

New to honda scene. Got an ek4 with a b18c4 boosted to 300nhp.

Come from a subaru background and built a 600 plus bhp subaru. Now got a lil honda project on and finding it hard to find the info im after. On subaru forums i could just search and plenty info on how to build a 600hp car. This block.. his stroker kit from so and so. If you want 2.5 this tuner can pin or sleeve block for you etc. This fuelling setup etc. This clutch. This box will handle it. Etc.

Finding it hard for a set protocol on tried and tested mathod for 500 / 550bhp honda.

Unless im just not searching right. My bad if i havnt. So thought id post and see if i can get all details in one page from you guys.

So what is a tried and tested parts list to have a reliable 500bhp honda for both track and road?

What engine? I currently have a b18c4 so most likely use this.
What engine components? Best rods and pistons? Any work required for block? Best place for parts for this? Any ideal comp ratio onnpump fuel?

What gearbox will handle it reliably? I have an s9b gearbox currennntly. What is it limit?

What is an ideal fuel setup? What injectors? Lift pump? Swirlpot? External pump? Ideal fuel lines? Etc.

Whats best ecu with most features. Im guessing hondata here? Although i had a syvecs on my subatu and have seen online a few hondas on syvecs.

Whats an ideal turbo? Not laggy? Good spool? Etc. Best place for the 3 or 4 bar boost solenoids map sensors and any other bits required?

Etc. Im sure you get the jist hopefully someone can detail a tried and tested 500hp setup for me.

Cheers

Your struggling to find a set protocol because there must be 100s of ways to skin this cat.
When i get 5 mins ill post up what id do but youll defo get others disagree and would do it a different way.

Cheers mate just the most tried and tested method. Main thing is reliability. Just really looking at the most common route used and that has been tested etc. Thanks. Ill await your post.

Hi mate, very basic list but I would...

CSS block (use the C4)
Any good rod, Manley/crower etc
Wiseco forged pistons
Valve springs and retainers
Use stock cams, will piss 500
1000cc injectors
Hondata S300

I'm running 450bhp on a stock block with an evo turbo, in an ideal world I'd run the above setup.

Cheers ek9 matt. So can the stock engine take more than 350? Maybe i should try and get a spare bare c4 block for the build. So no need for liners or anything? Would cheapest be buying from realstreetperformance the engine parts or who can you recommend in uk? Cheers

If it was my money....

Darton mid sleeves bored to 84.5mm, taking the motor out to a 2L
Type R cams
mild upgraded valvetrain
Pretty much any piston in the 9-1 to 10-1 cr range (wiseco, cp etc)
Manley rods
3 or 4 bar map sensor doesnt really matter which
Any 1000cc injector based on the bosch ev14 (IDs, grams, asnu etc)
Gtx3076 gen 2
More costs than matts and arguably no more reliable at your power goal but thats what id do.

Really depends on what parts you end up running as to whether it's worth getting them from real street. Most good parts are available in the UK from the likes of tegiwa and Htune.

You can run 350 on a stock block, but how long it will last I don't know, all depends on the tune! As I say I'm at 450 and done 4k road miles and plenty of track time on my setup.

There you have it, two different options straight away from me and @jesse888 Lol, and we are both running similar power on 2 different setups.

Cheers guys just looking at htune. And i see they ask compression ratio. Whats best to go for on v power fuel. What would you day i should aim for on the boosted motor to get ride pistons and headgasket etc. Probs wont go over 82mm myself tbh. Just need to find a good bare block and do the build in free time.

If your not looking to bore the engine out to gain capacity then CSS(cylinder support system) is the way to go for sure. Cheaper than sleeves and will hold 500 forever.
Personally id not go over 81.5 but again others probably have and its worked for them.
Id not want over 10-1 cr on a 500+hp motor.

Second this build spec

I personally wouldn't go sleeves unless you wanted serious power for drag racing etc, CSS has been proven to over 800whp, @MadM1ke87 is running around 600hp on his. It's also the hassle with sleeves sinking etc.

Out of interest mate wheres the best place to go for css, as far as i know theres only cpl racing?
Cheers for your help

Amac engineering in the North East turn out very good CSS blocks, also CNC werx in America (the original founders of the CSS block).

I'm gonna be building a spare engine up this winter and I think I'll be using Amac for mine.

Nice one mate thanks for that

Idrees?

Hope you're well.

I'm doing something very similar at the moment but I'm using a stock liner'd B18C4 with just pistons and rods.

Going together with a GT3071, which should be good for 450 to 500hp.

You should pop round, I'm up near Clayton we can have a chat.

As the guys have said above with the parts they have listed

All I would say is don't forget all the little minor things for a turbo build on a b series.

You will need to set up a catch can to relieve the positive crank case pressure

Be careful where you take your oil line from as some t pieces will be different threads and will ruin your day

Spark plug choice you will have to drop a couple of heat ranges

Ignition can be temperamental depending how much boost you want to run

Fpr make the right choice as most are a rising rate so 1 psi of boost your fuel pressure will rise 1 psi add 20 psi of boost and your fuel pressure will be at 63psi, So make sure the regulator will go that high and so on

Fuel systems you can run external pump but wasn't happy having my pump in the car with me, full blown motor sport do a twin pump in tank conversion but you will have to change your fuel lines

Clutch I would recommend going for a stage 3 or above and a retuble make

But at the end of the day it's all about how much you want to spend

Definitely go v band on Wastegate and down pipe or you will be forever tightening them up.

And as for shopping at real st they are one of the best but with the exchange rate at the moment and the price of shipping and then import tax it's not worth buying in the states, there are loads of company's in the UK that are great seller like h tune

Just to add to what Harvey said above, all the little things need addressed too. Brakes, suspension bushes etc. You need to stop and be able to transmit some of the power to the floor.
