b16b or b18c r

i love how the b16b sounds..
do a lot of owners stroke them to the 1.8 ?
or swap to the 1.8 motor?

A b16b block is identical to a b18c just with a longer stroke so all you need is an itr crank/rods/pistons... some people use 16b pistons for higher comp.

Its not overly common due to the cost of it all, people weigh it up and once hassle is accounted for its generally easier to fit a b18 in the first place. In an ideal world you would have a b18 block with a b16b head / valve train.

Are the heads much different in these? Is it much more benificial to use a 1600 head?

Heads are identical, however b16b cams have slightly more degrees

One would probably never notice the difference between the two.

do a lot of people swap motors for the b18 with the 4.7 final drive? that's what i was planning on in my 2000 civic hatchback

Final drive is in the box so most people just swap gearboxes or change the FD. Ive just had a 4.7 fitted in my S4c so should be good fun.

Does the b18c have a hand ported head too? I was told it was just the b16b that had been done to match the more aggressive cams and as such was about as good as you could get in terms of a b series head from factory?

Unless its because people get a b18c4 just for the block and then use an ek9 head as the best / more available option. I guess not many b18c's get split up and sold. Be interested to know what the all the differences are though.

From memory, the dc2R heads are hand ported yes. The ek9 lift duration isnt much in difference compared to the dc2 98 specs, if someone was going to change cams for more durations they'd better off going after market. In my opinion, people go for the c4 because it's cheap and usually they go for an a2 head just so they can run better inlet manifolds, the c4 head actually provides more compression over the rest from what I've come across. There's also the poor mans type r build but that's not as common as it once was, in fact I've not seen one done in years.

All type r heads were hand ported up to 98, then they were machine ported as it was more accurate. There's a video somewhere showing it being done in the Honda factory, I'll try and find it.

^ this is correct.
Also ek9 cams and late dc2 cams are exactly the same but only 3 degrees extra duration on the intake side over the earlier dc2 cams. Youd never notice the difference tbh

can you feel the torque difference between the two engines under normal driving conditions? like without flooring the gas and revving high?

say i'm just driving normal would i get more low end torque with the b18c?
