Hi guys, im a newbie to the forum.

I busted my B16a during an autocross event, while i was seeking for a block, I came across few cheap B16A2 blocks. Did a research on the forums and found out B16A2 has low horsepower and compression ratio of 10.2.1 (PR3) instead of 10.4.1 which came in my JDM B16a. now i need to clarify these facts before I purchase a b16a2 block.

B16a2

1) If I use b16a (p30) 10.4.1 pistons will it perform just like the JDM B16a? or will there still be a power loss due to some other reasons?

2) Can i use my B16A Head and JDM (Std) Cams on B16A2?

3) if i buy a B16a2 Block/ Engine do i need to change my Gearbox as well?

1) If you have "busted" your b16a, then depending on what is broken I would leave the Pistons where they are. Pointless extra complication for the sake of 0.2 extra CR

2) Yes, all b series heads are generally interchangeable.

3) No there is no reason you will need to change your box.

The difference between JDM B16As and UK A2s is very minimal. As you have found 0.2 CR and Supposed small difference in cams. I have ran both back to back also swapping between JDM and UK ECUs found almost no noticeable differences.

Considering you are already needing to swap heads cams etc, why not upgrade a few more parts while in there with the likes of C4 or type R cams( Valve springs not needed if keeping the B16A/2 Rev limit of 8400/8200. Also for the sake of the minimal 0.2 CR you may as well just have the head skimmed a few extra thou to give an even higher CR than the stock b16a was.

To add to that unless you are in a specific 1600 class it would be much more worth while to swap to a b18C4 bottom end instead.

Hi mate, Thanks for the response. As for the 1600 class racing rules I cannot use type r pistons n cams. Also the rev limiter is set to 9200 rpm. With the previous block, 2 broken rods and that was all.
So what you saying, its worth going for a b16a2 if putting p30 pistons and it'l definitely perform exactly as a JDM B16a?
