B16 Turbo or K?

I made a thread recently where someone mentioned a K swap being a possible alternative to boosting my B16. Tbh I kind of laughed it off thinking it was way over budget, but it seems possible with second hand parts! Now I'm looking to see who has experience of both, and what did you prefer? Pro's and Con's?
Is it really possible to do a k swap for about 4K? Or am I completely missing massive amounts of parts looking at k's being broken?:blinx:
The noise and future power scope make it a very attractive proposition!

Can do a kswap for about £2500-3000 these days. That's including engine and box in that price as well.

Coincidentally, it's your Jordan that has made me want to stay N/A, as it seems they are all boosted! I'm guessing that's shopping around for second hand parts, and not cutting corners?

I'm always torn by this tbh. Sometimes I think, yeah a nice big na build with ITBs would be epic!
But the power of the dark side is too strong for me!

After my last thread with both of your input, I've went away and looked at going for boost, and yeah I'll easily achieve much more power down that route, but you can always boost a K series further down the line? The videos of the Kraftwerks EK on YouTube are drawing me in
It's a very difficult (but fantastic) dilemma that I have. Just looking to see the con's and pro's of both(more the k in particular) now.

For me it comes back to two things.

How I felt when I hit tec in my ek4 vti standard other than a back box. First civic.

How I felt when I hit tec in my prem edition ep3.Standard when I got it.

B series - overwhelmed
K series - underwhelmed

I did mod the ep3 and tbh I did love it but... For me that b series crossover will never lose its appeal.

I feel the same mate, my ep3 may be faster than my ek9 but doesnt give me the smile that b series gives when it kicks in.
Wonder how your 'tec feels with turbo..

It's like hitting b series tec for the first time all over again lol only now it pulls in 5th ten times harder than the old ek4 did in second!! :drive:

I remember the feeling of first hitting VTEC in my EE9 and that was immense. Even better when I had the b16b put in it. Also supercharged VTEC is essentially N/A on acid, but still... K20 can be all those things and more.

Just figured out who you are @Eck you know jamie penman from kdy? He's got your old dc sports manifold on his eg?

I do indeed know Jamie, mate. Not seen him or that lovely black EG for years though!
Haven't seen your motor through this neck of the woods?

Encore, sell the 16b, and use that to get a c4 plus change for turbo bits.

Aye jamies a good mate of mine, he was through at sos with the eg getting mapped same time mine was. I'm edinburgh way man only really thro there now and again. Gonna get a central scotland meet organized soon...

I was thinking of that mate, looking at jesses posts. Essentialy i would want literally everything to make it work. My concern would be how long would a stock b16b turbo on track last me.

Fair point mate. I'm certainly not one to talk about boosted reliability lol.

I would never sell the b16b mate, i would keep it as a backup or just cherish it lol.
Ive always said turboing a c4 is best bang for buck, but for some reason a b16b turbo seems something rather special and jesses build appeals to me a lot.

Id say 18c1 is the biggest bang for buck ;)

I was the same but I didn't want to destroy a b16b, still have the bottom end sitting.

B18c1 is that a usdm dc2 engine mate? I also have a complete b18c bottom end sitting here that i could use to increase stroke but would still be a hi comp engine for turbo. Just had a thought how about dropping c4 pistons in the b16b then turbo, would that work or am i being silly.
