Well title says it all :(

I was wondering could any of you please help me as i have done conversion on mine jdm 99 1.5 EK3 with D15B 3-stage VTEC engine and now after the conversion car wont start. The lights on the dash come up as normal. All the connections/grounds seems to be right and all fluids level. we are using the same auto ecu. Using a Manual starter.

Now my mate who done the conversion thinks its the gearbox as that could have been seized/freeze but I haven't came a single thread of conversion on various other Honda Forums where it mention that it could be due to Gearbox.

any ideas what could be the reason or point where we should look?
As if its gearbox then we will have to replace gearbox and have to open everything back again.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Surely you would need an ecu from me manual car? The auto ecu probably needs a reading to know what gear it's in before it will start up?

Tnx for ur reply. But I read in good few threads that ecu doesnt matter and will work with auto ecu.

Here these are some comments from another forum:

  • "It's got absolutely nothing to do with the ECU. The starting circuit is very simplistic and has literally nothing to do with the ECU at all. You can absolutely run an automatic ECU on a manual."

  • "Again the ECU doesn't play into it at all. In very simplistic explanation the switch is in between the ignition switch and the starter wire. It never get's anywhere near the ECU. Fuel pump isn't affected at all. And yes the clutch start switch is the same circuit."

ok, fair enough. When you try to start it what happens? does it turn over and not fire or is there nothing at all when you turn the key? could be the starter motor isn't working right.

yeah so when we start there is nothing. we even tried to push. the wheels get freeze. now I did thought of starter motor but it was working fine before conversion.

right. Would there be a clutch switch to setup when changing from auto to manual?

I dont think so there is any switch like that. There is to Install clutch and pressure plate which we did.

taken from that thread.

Now this is pretty easy, but then again i love electrical. But all you need to do is connect 5 wires total. One of the plugs that you disconnected from the auto shifter is a 14P plug. Cut the plug off. Your going to have a 2 thick blk wires and 1 blk/blu wire, Solder those 3 together. Those together lets your car think its in park and releases the key and starts your car. Important Click the image to open in full size.

Next there is a yel/red wire and a grn/blk wire. Doesnt matter what way they go they do the same. These are for your reverse lights. Connect some line to them and run it through the firewall to your reverse light switch. And your set.

Thanks elchunk. Yes this the thread I was following but I will check and provide this to me mate and see if we did this and see if it helps.

But can u tell me one thing that we also tried pushing the car and it doesnt seems to moving even though we have it in neutral. battery is disconnected as well.

It should still roll no?

Does it go into all the gears and the clutch feel like its working? It should roll when in neutral obviously. Does the starter click or anything? Could be a sticky starter motor, but a bit worrying it wont roll, unless there's a problem with the brakes too

Yeah its going in all gears n stuff. Yeah its not rolling as tyres freeze when we push the car. Brakes were fine before conversion. Yeah just dont know where the pblm is :(

you need to change your auto ECU to manual ECU. Car will work on auto one but wont drive 100%. i just did conversion in my '99 EK4

tnx for the input lad. i am not able to find any manual ecu for 1.5 stage 3 vtec. so thats why I wanted to get done n can change once i get hold of 1.

i couldnt get one for mine either so i went for APEXI Power FC and had it maped

Nice :nice: How much did ye paid for that? I would say be expensive alri.

think price is irrelevant for you as i'm based in Cyprus... I paid 'fixed fee' for tuning and Power FC (2nd hand) of EUR 750. i think that's not too bad though..

Finally, got the conversion done. The 1st gearbox was seized so got another one and now car is running fine n atm I am running it with the auto ecu but will be changing that soon.
