Am I out of my mind? Or are the drugs just wearing off.

Only kidding about the drugs.

Ok. So, I am sure a lot of you have the same problems I do... Money! Cars are very expensive hobbies, and for me thats not even the most expensive interest in my live. Music also cost me an arm and a leg! Im a student studying for a degree with a part time job working nights at tesco, so I hardly earn enough to fund my passions as well as living. I have already tried giving up cars to save money and that lasted all of 8 months.

Anyway getting to the point (sorry if I'm babbling on). I am in the process of importing a car from Japan. So far on the Japan side of things everything has gone very smoothly and I have even enjoyed the process of looking for cars, bidding at auction and the tension as I wait to hear if I have won. But what would I have to do if I wanted to import cars to the UK and sell them on legally? Would It be possible to do it just from my driveway? Nothing large scale, just 3 or 4 cars a year for that little bit of extra cash every now and then and also it would be something that I enjoy doing as I would get to see a few different cars that I may not ever actually own.

I had a look around on the internet about being registered but just got a bit confused as most of the stuff I found was for people who wanted to start up a small business or something, rather than just a relaxed occasional trader making a profit every so often. Is this possible? Or would it be a huge headache of taxes, permits, insurance etc for little and almost pointless profit.

No tax evading answers please. If there isn"t a legitimate possibility then there is no possibility :))

Thanks all!

I'd say your best bet is to send type-r-dunk a PM and see what advise he has to offer.

:nice:

Yup Dunx has the answers here :D

I was doing it for a while a couple of years ago but was importing from Ireland not Japan, I never got any permits or anything just bought them and sold them on..

cars are a money pit.
music is a money pit.

You are better off playing with your money on the stock market...when the market is up and down like its been, its an opportunity to make some good money.

Im seening $8 swings in prices of stocks within a 30 day period...buy low and sell high every 60days and make some good money pending on the investment/risk taken. Common sense and research is all thats needed, other than $300 to start with an online trading account.

Cars are money pits, I have 3 and people always ask me how I afford them, simple answer is I work 6 days a week and don't drink (much) or smoke. Anyway if you are buying and selling anything to make profit you should really register as self employed but for a car or 2 I wouldn't bother!
