Couple of questions about wheel nuts as mine are a mis-match of silver nuts at the moment from when I bought it and it's need of being treated to new ones.

One thing I'm not sure about is the difference (or necesity) for short nuts over long and vice versa? As to look at in pics I couldnt tell you if they were long or short

And also can anyone point me in the direction of good quality wheel nuts as there's so many out there and I've heard some horror stories about failing aluminium nuts.

Any help appreciated cheers!

Steve

OEM nuts work well.

as above, oem steel nuts are great

blingy aluminium wheel nuts are a waste of time and money

i wouldnt recommend aluminum nuts at all had them before and ill never use them again, mate had a wheel come off with them.either oem or steel ones muketi make steel ones i have them there very good

Ah right ok cheers for the heads up guys, might not waste my money in that case. I'll just go for some steel ones to replace the rusty mis-matched length nuts I have just now :)

Or Duraluminum. Stronger than normal aluminum, lighter than steel

steel is only way to go,dont last any length of time and there dangerous my own wheels loosened with a set of the d1 spec ones and had problems with ultralite aswell with ends cracking etc and both arnt the cheaper ebay jobs

go steel
save weight on wheels and tires, NOT the lug nuts.

I guess that's pretty well said! Only nuts I've been able to find are shiney coloured ones or neo flameburnt effect shite. Is it possible to get the same style aluminium open end lug nuts in a matte finish done in steel? Not wanting the shiney red or blue etc. that's gauranteed to look tatty as hell after a couple of times of changing wheels!

How about some copper colour steel wheel nuts ? This is a real copper coating not just a colour.

Hmm they look alright, not sure how they'd look against a set of bronze rota slipstreams though? Not looking to spend a fortune on a set either. I'd say £50-£60 tops maybe?

Ah theses are the best part of £100 for a set of 16. Made by AI Tech

Idea of them is they wont come loose but are easier to undo and runs on the threads smoother than normal steel nuts.

I only got them after my run in with Aluminium wheel nuts :(

I thought by the look of them they were going to be dear. They look trick but don't think I could justify paying £100+ for wheel nuts personally. Safety is key but if I'm sure I can get something equally as safe within my budget. Although I think I've been steered well clear of the aluminium route!

Buy a set of steel lug nuts and paint them.
colored lug nut at silly anywho.

Why in the world would anyone want these? I can not come up with even 1/2 a reason why.

They were originally made for Group N rally cars so they are proven to be strong enough to cope with most things you can throw at them, there copper coated so when they are done up they will not come loose which is what i wanted for track days and they are easier to undo when they are tight and run smoother up and down on the threads time after time and will not corrode.

For the money yes they are over the top but after spending over £350 in studs and wheel bearings because of what a set of aluminium wheel nuts did i was a little pissed off and wanted something that was proven to work.

By all means go buy a cheaper set of say Grayston wheel nuts, they will probably do just as a good a job but for me its piece of mind.

Thank you for the great information on the copper coated nuts. Never heard of this.

antisease on the threads with steel nuts should do the trick for far less than copper coated steel.
