ABS Delete via Removing ABS Pump Motor Relay

Before I ask my question, let me introduce my car.
It's a 98 Civic Hatch EK4 VTI
It comes with ABS and B16a2 engine.

I have always complained about the abs kicking in too soon. I have good tires on all four wheels, my brake system is in good working condition. The ABS kicking in too soon is just a problem with all the civic that I have driven.

I searched the forum on how to remove the ABS and I found quite a lot of information about how to do it by swapping to a non ABS prop valve and making up new lines for the new prop valve.

By the way, I daily drive my car (mostly spirited driving) and occasionally track it. I haven't removed anything from my car for the sake of weight reduction so that isn't why I want my car without ABS. I am just so used to driving cars without ABS and I can stop without locking the wheels even in the most critical situations. So it is just a matter of preference that I don't want ABS.

Back to the subject, what I have done was to remove the ABS pump motor relay from the ABS fuse/Relay Box which is under the hood. You can see it in the below picture.

The abs stopped working after this and the ABS light appeared on my dashboard.
I am quite pleased with the result. Now I can stop my car in shorter distances, especially when the grip is lower (rain, dust, etc.). So effectively, I have achieved what I wanted but there is always a question in my mind.

1- Does removing this relay cause any mechanical or electronic problems?
2- What are the cons to disable the ABS by removing the relay?
3- Does disabling the ABS affect the brake bias?

Please keep in mind that my questions aren't about the necessity of the ABS. I know how the ABS works, what it is for and the consequences of not having an ABS in a car.
My questions are about the method that I used to disable ABS.

Thanks in advance for anyone trying to help with my questions.

1. Not to my knowledge.
2. The ABS light gets annoying. You either put up with it, or remove it, but then it needs replacing for MOT.
3. No, it's nothing to do with the bias.

Did this myself for some time with mine and seemed to work acceptably well. If you're not bothered about the dead weight, it seems to work just fine and much easier than fully ripping the system out.

:nice:

Thanks Kozy.
I don't think I'll be annoyed by the ABS light.
And about the bias; well I couldn't actually find any reason why the "ABS pump not functioning" would change the bias but I just wanted to make sure.

I removed the ABS PUMP motor relay in my EK4 on track. You only have the ABS light on, which can be slightly annoying. As soon as the relay in back in the light goes off.

How do the people who delete abs keep the light from coming on?
I'd like to perminately disable my abs but keep the light away.
Plus I can't be fussed with re routing brake lines and what not.

One way is to remove the bulb from the cluster that lights the ABS warning.

I'm not sure about this but another way is to kill the light from your standalone ECU (if you have one). As I said, I'm not sure if this works with the civics but it does on some other cars.

Thanks mate, will have to pull the bulb. My abs is actually dangerous lol

Hey guys, found that thread and wanted to ask:
Can I remove this relay if I want to drive my car without ABS? I am doing some lessons at track/muddy road and don't need ABS now.
Is it OK? I just don't want to do all this 40/40 brake lines etc conversion right now.

You don't need to pull the bulb I think you just need to disconnect the plug on the back there's 2 small 2 wire connectors at the back of the cluster. One is srs one is abs. I'm sure that's what I did anyway. Was ages ago tbf.

Someone mentioned mot if the abs system is removed and there is no light for it then it can't fail for it. Might of changed as they move the goal posts all the time.

I pulled the fuse when I was on track once and having issues with the abs. That disabled it fine.

And braking was fine? As I know ABS unit is doing distribution of braking forces. So how they are distributed if its fully turned off?

My abs system was broken. I didn't notice any adverse effects from pulling the fuse

So, Jesse, you were tracking your EK9 which came with ABS from factory, and you just pulled the fuse and brakes were OK, right? (How long you were driving with this set up?)
Sorry for re-asking, just want to be 100% sure.

Correct. I only did it for one trackday and I then pulled the whole system out.
Car was fine without the fuse. Just had an abs light on as you would expect.
