Bank holiday next weekend so I might get a few hours of fabrication work on the inner sills and the floor, then 2 weeks after iv a week off work so might get a few more days at it. Hoping to get the inner rear arch repair done next month too

As ever, time hasn't been on my side. The week I had off both my parents ended up in hospital. Family before fun so onwards and upwards. Done some metal work to the inner left sill,no pics but will have some next week when I have it all shaped up.

Cylinder head is off now so I just have to strip it down to get it skimmed. Might do the valve guides myself, have all the tools to do it so anyone thats done it before please shoot me a pm

No surprises in the engine so far, good black carbon build up on the combustion chamber from burning oil. I think its all in the head but I'm getting the bore 0.5mm oversized with new pistons and rings anyway

Started to separate out some of the parts iv been gathering. Gearbox will be getting a refresh in the next few weeks aswell.

Some other bits iv gathered over the last month.
NGK blue leads, Aerodynamics spoon style carbon fibre mirrors, hardrace front wishbone and anti roll bar bushes kit. Huge thanks to the lads in MCGAUTOSTYLING.COM for sorting these bits very quickly

Have Brembo pads for the front now and just waiting on the discs to arrive this week.
Spoon number plate and some spoon decals arrived too

2 steps forward and 1 step back this week.
Got some more bolts for the front from honda ,fast delivery as always. My brembo discs for the front finally showed up so that's some more parts off the list for underneath.

The joy of being in the motortrade?I can make up my own paint and paint my rocker cover y56. Put some effort into it,used very high quality clear and then funked the whole thing up by splashing carb cleaner onto it when I was cleaning the head and destroyed it so back to square 1

Cylinder head is off soon to be skimmed, new valve guides and recut valves and seats. Reason for a rebuild is that it burns oil like an angry Arab! Valve stem seals were gone hard and oval, valve guides were excessively worn aswell

Brought the head home with me to strip down

Intake valves weren't too dirty, as expected for a 166k kms engine

Exhaust on the other hand were badly covered in carbon. Took alot to clean them up and 2 on cylinder three were slightly bent. Not really sure how? Timing belt was dont at some stage and might have been a second attempt but no signs of piston contact. Im thinking carbon build up along with worn guides might have done it. 2 new valves from honda arriving tomorrow anyway

Got an oem Hitachi ignition coil for a steal through work aswell. Just an ignitor to get now and all the ignition system is refreshed

And a new shiny PLM Toda style manifold came this week from NOSHITPERFORMANCE.COM
Have to give the lads there a big thank you, great communication, great pricing and very fast shipping, highly recommend them
We all know what the PLMS are like, nice clean welds ,very well put together and nice flat header flange

Small bit of fabrication done yesterday. Rust in the corner of the floor and behind the sill. Small amount of sill is rusted out too. Bit of a pain to make as multiple layers meet in the corner. All good metal will be cleaned up and treated ,all rust cut out and replaced with clean new steel. After the sections were made up they were sanded back and painted with weld through copper primer so no new flash rust can happen before its welded in. Took a considerable amount of time to do this section because of the layers. Each layer had to be made before it was cut out so it would fit correctly, cut the section out and final shape it then remove the layer behind it and repeat

Bit more welding done on driver side. Nothing major bit i wanted it done right and to replicate original as much as possible so alot of time with shaping and cutting. I cut more than I need to as I want to make sure no rust comes back again

Eventually got pissed off welding, grinding and cutting so done a bit more cleaning of the under body and put some brunnox anti corrosion epoxy over the area I cleaned up

Painted the rear roll bar silver and put multiple coats of satin clear on it aswell. Dont want to stray too far away from OEM but so much black and white needs a small amount of breaking up

Happy with the work today. One part drove me insane but thankfully a good friend of mine is a panel beater and he took some time out of his day to help me and show me what I was doing wrong.
Some finishing to be done on the parts welded today and just 2 more part on the rhs sill and thats one side of the car done

Bit more welding and prep done. Driver side is pretty much finished apart from 4 spot welds. I can down the sill to floor section and replicate the factory sealer along the seam.
One thing iv noticed is in alot of over laps on this car both pieces of steal will have rust and need to be cut out. My process is cut out any rusted or weakened metal, make a template and transfere to metal, treat this new metal before welding in,after welding 1 layer I paint it with copper weld through primer to minimise any further rust issues and the top layer will also have been treated and copper painted before welding on top. After the welds are cleaned down they are treated with rust prevention epoxy primer and left to cure. Any minor imperfections are filled and sanded back

2 spot weld to be done on this section. Even though it will never be seen again, as its covered in seam sealer, ill know its not done right. It will be plug welded from the top, flattened down and an indentation created with a die grinder on top and bottom

Drivers floor has all been brought back to metal underneath, treated with brunnox anti corrosion primer and after curing a coat of zinc 182

Got a good 6 hour run at the car today. At some stage a previous owner put expanding foam in the sills and I wanted it out. I don't know why it was done because the sills are pretty good with only a hole to the rear of both sills,I have been told that this was an old japanese racer thing to increase rigidity for cheap???

Sill was cut out in sections so when welded back in it would be back in the same place
Pics inside the sills before being cleaned and treated
