hey guys,
im having a problem changing from first to second gear. i had a friend look at it for me the other day but he could not help me out as the problem only happens the odd time. i would be drive off in first gear and put clutch fully down go for second and when i get into second with a quick grind noise.most of the time this does not happen. its driving me mad. Anybody have any clue to what it might be.
Also i get a whistling noise coming from the car sometimes and when i fully press down the clutch the noise goes away. could these two things be related?
hope someone can enlighten me. thanks a million

sound like your clutch is going out and the noice im 110% sure is the throw out bearing

i also have this prob i would also say check your master cylinder, slave cylinder if its not them is defo got to do with your gearbox and clutch.

clutch realese bearing is more than likely the whining noise and the crunch could be caused by a worning syncro. try changing the gearbox oil out for some honda mtf

thanks for the reply guys,
i thought it might be the clutch myself but i ruled it out when i was told that if it was the clutch shouldnt al the gears grind/notch the odd time?
i drove it again today, it seems if i let the revs drop and put it in a neutral position before going into second this makes the gear change smooth.otherwise it requires a bit more strenght to change it. i have bought mtf but wanted to see what you all think first as if its a gearbox problem out goes the new gearbox oil if it has to be taken out:angry:

Synchro sleeve

I replaced all my synchro rings but still had an intermittent crunch into second, stripped the box again and on closer inspection the 1-2 synchro sleeve was badly worn

replaced the hub and sleeve, been perfect since :nice:

ok Great :(
anybody know how much im looking at to fix this problem?

hub and sleeve from honda comes as a kit with the synchro rings too - not available separate

£340 for the parts + whatever labour

just changed my clutch fluid today, couldnt believe how bad it was, looked like burnt oil :nerv: clutch pedal nice and firm now and the grind isnt as bad as it was. going to change the mtf next.hopefully that will lead to further improvement :nice:

did mtf fix ur problem?

Hi sorry wasnt on this for ages. no mtf didnt fully fix the problem, think 2nd gear is just gone too far.did help the other gears though.changn through them is efortless now

I had the problem a while ago but ignored it. A few weeks ago my clutch completaly went, so bought an F1 Racing clutch. Problems sorted.
