172 clio or 182 !

My S would struggle to reach near 168 mph and that's far more aerodynamic and has far more power...

my eg6 with the standard jdm b16a engine and a few light mods did over 145 mph and still had some left , it was a straight too .... ovb the speedo isnt 100% accurate but i was still flying , anyway chillout guys , i was just asking what car to get next lol

my mate has a mx5, i was actually quite impressed how cool they are when you go out for a drive in them

he constantly moans about not having enough power and being thirsty

Only way you can have fun with both RWD and power is spend alot more money
S2000 etc
Just go for it
If you hate it it's getting close to summer so it won't take long to sell again :)

the insurance is monstrous for the s2000 too! im 29, full no claims, no points, in a nice village and it was £1000!

friend of mine just a bought a 172...

Pants car tbh... if you have driven an EK9 hard, doesn't compare in the slightest... honestly my lightly modded Ek4 felt more solid...

honestly don't know what people see in them..

horrible thing if you ask me.

driving position = terrible, the car just feels like a normal Clio with tougher suspension and a big engine, and for 2.0 its slow man...

nah not a fan at all, haven't tried a 182 too though maybe a different story..

i dont think there is any real difference between the 172 and the 182, maybe slight suspension tweeks, twin exhaust, different manifold

they cant be that bad cause evo magazine highly rated the clio sports a good few years ago

Are good for B road blasts tbh, but will fall apart and break around you. Seen a lot of money wasted repairing them hence why cheap to buy.

Personally would avoid unless dead set on one.

I feel i'm in a good position to answer this thread as i've had four Renault Sport Clio's (Two Phase 1 172's, a 182 and a 172 Cup at current.)

I've driven an Ek9 and a CTR and personally speaking, the performance is negligible IMO.

Purley down to driver ability, there isn't enough of a power difference between the standard examples to make up for missing a gearchange/tyre pressures being out/tyres being of poor quality etc and so on.

I'm unsure where people are saying about reliability being poor, they aren't German, but if maintained - they don't have to be a headache. I've driven well over 100k in 4 Clio RS' and never had any major problems (touch wood). It can only really be commented on if you've actually owned one - like anything really.

Oh and 35mpg? What do your EK9's do? ;)

Anyway, i'll share a few pics of my previous Clio RS' conquests...

Cup...

Exclusive 172 Phase 1 (Number 2 of 172)

182...

172 Phase 1...

So there we have it, the last 4 years of Clio RS ownership!

The only people that slate their build quality are the people that have never owned them sadly!

We are chilled :)
Are you thinking MX-5 then?

Was thinking off getting one I'm 6.2 , and reakon I may look a bit off a giant in it, leaning more towards a old Mr2 :) the ones with the pop up headlights, more off a car than the mx5, may even go for a t bar one, 240 bhp!

But want money left over so imagine it will be 2litre non turbo if I got one!
Anyone had one or been in one, if so whats your thoughts.

Those pictures have just reminded me how girly they look.
Couldn't take it seriously.

The 182 doesn't look too bad, quite like it actually.
Still wouldnt have one over an ek9. But that's a personal thing I suppose

lol this is a ek9 forum afterall, the honda fanboys are obviously gonna stick up for the honda!

this one is a personal favourite and in the best colour!

Would you not struggle to get a decent one though? How about a MK1 MR2 :) they look better

Clio will fall apart FACT.

Clio is the easier car to drive faster. Ek9 is the rawer faster car when driven properly.

You're wrong. The green Clio above was on 126,140 miles when i sold it, it pulled harder than most cars. A guy at work had a 330i which couldn't keep up.

Yeah the mk1 looks really cool, but will be alot harder to find a good condition one, they are pretty dam rare now, theres a stock 2 litre mk2 with fsh 12 mot and 6 months tax for £990 :0

Obviously it wont be immaculate but pretty dam cheap, hmmm could you recommend any other choices, like ive said I dont have any car in mind, well k20 Ek9 would be nice lol, ive scrolled through all off pistonheads and theres nothing that catches my eye which Id eant to spend my money on!

Tbh I'm hoping to go Thailand for a month or two after my holiday in June so looking for something cheap, quick ish and nice to drive, jap preferably for high reving and and reliable, I know you get what you pay , most off the time anyway
