It was the sensor that was broken. I ordered the Denso sensor and fitted it on Saturday, quick test with the speedo reading in KMs, wired the converter back in and it's all good :)

Yep, it's been on and off a few times, clicks in nicely each time and the contacts are nice and clean, no water or oil/dirt.

No, it surprised me too, but I removed the converter chip and rewired the loom straight back to the sensor and nothing from the speedo...

Funny I was just talking to the missus about that. TBH I'd prefer just to get a new one, then it rules that part out of any further issue with the speedo. Ebay converter chips are more likely to fail than the sensor, so if I know that's good then it's easier to troubleshoot :) Cheers, Alex
