My EK4 - will update pics regularly~

Be sure to post up the before/after dyno sheet.

Glad you had fun out there. Funny how "USA technology" works in Asia too. I remember having this discussion years ago when Hong Kong tuners would **** on all matters of cold intakes.

Tuning > Branding.

But i'm quite doubting on the hp curve, because the powerband will extend to 8,900rpm, and i'm only running on Toda A cam, i thought the peak power should be around 8,200rpm?!

I heard the CAI is good, wonder how much if getting a AEM CAI instead the HDI custom make intake (HKD1,500 = US200), could there be any hp difference with the piping angle?

CHinese ppl: always branding ahead of anything~

I'll comment on the power curve when the graph is posted. :p

As for the custom vs AEM. The difference is not really in the angles, but the length and diameter. You need a 3.0in diameter and the length should be tuned to suit your motor.

So in this case, the HDi custom is better since they have the ability to adjust the length. You will also likely need to add a bit more fuel/timing after this is done.

Should you ever go 2.0L in the future, it will likely have to be adjusted once again.

Chinese ppl: Brand blindness

I was there and I can confirm the power readings of the tune. Eric the tuner was very proficient with the powerfc using the little gameboy which game him cramps. Power was up from 144whp to 163whp just from tuning the AFR and also the finally the ignition timing.

I tried many lengths of CAI and it so happens the length that he used was ideal for mine, it filled in the drop of torque between 4000 and 5000 rpm. I think what Eric is going to do is make you the CAI using 2 sections of 45 degree bends like mine. We spent 4 days tuning and testing different lengths to get the angles and length right.
Throw that Mugen air filter away and get this setup, a huge boost in torque on your car from 4800-6000rpm and a free 10 WHP on the top with torque rising from 7000rpm instead of falling as in the Mugen right unto 9000rpm.

You car was pretty amazing for a B16 <ahem> A4...hahahaha..

Just for a laugh, we swapped out the Powerfc and used an OEM P2T-003 ECU, the power and torque was better than the TOP RACING tune on the power FC..shame again!

RA, please comment:

A little clarification:
Black line: best run with HDI CAI intake
Red line: best run after tuning
Green line: Base run

EK4SIR, thanks again for your help! I'm going to send a letter to options fans and prove how poor their setting is! Btw, do you think i should get the HDI power flow or grap another flow like K&N or Apexi?

Get the HDI..it's proven good enough on the dyno and as observed on site. If you get a branded one the performance will be the same for twice the price. Plus you won't get the discounted tune up for buying HDI product.

Attached is the photo of the "tuner" who tunes all these exotic cars and of course our bad experiences with their tuning. Proven once again, this guy is a scam and knows ****. In the photo he is trying to figure out which icon to press for instant power up.

From your power graph, if you made the intake just 6" longer I believe the peaky torque will be moved down lower to 4900-5000 where you need it. In my system you noticed why my intake is slightly longer in length than the tested 90 degree piping, it was for shifting the peaky "AEM HUMP" lower down for better motorway cruising.

As RA said, don;t buy into branding, buy into things that work and proven on the dyno.

Spoonson: was there a reason why you guys didn't rev it all the way to 9500rpm? Just worried that the motor might blow?

Damn, wish you guys called me, I would have tried to make it just to see how things were running.

Either way, I find it very interesting that the power carries so high. I think it's just a good combination of parts and a strong motor itself despite the fact that the Toda As aren't known to make top end gains.

I agree with EK4 in playing with the intake lengths. You might be able to con him into ripping out the BPi stack and sticking it on the end of the HDi pipe to see if there are any other "hidden" gains. It would also be interesting to see how close you could get to 190-200whp with some bigger cams like JUN3s.

Do you have an AFR graph to compare these 3 runs? And when's the next time you guys are doing another tuning session? :p

Wau...Spoonson... ur setup really have a good result... i dyno mine at the same day u dyno.. but result is expected bad...150 on wheel..

do u guys think e manage will works with B16B stock internal wit upgrade of CAI simota air filter, header, 2.5" piping?

Thanks again RA and EK4SIR. I'll try to go tomorrow but most likely i can't make it since i have a lunch meeting and i cann't sneak out. Most likely i'll send my car to HDI next Tuesday for new intake and finally tune. But i'll check with Eric first and see if he can finish everything in one day. Otherwise, i have to check on my schedule again. I'll let you guys know and hope to meet both of you too!

For the CAI, i have to go to Yuen Long backyard to buy a inner fender plastic (I through it away since i slammed my car before and it was totally teared apart) this weekend.

RA, my next mission before B18, MF 4.785 or 4.9 final gear, could you please pm me the price for how much you can get? Not planning to go B18 until this engine is killed, might go Jun3 by that time.

PM sent about the final drive.

Better pick up the fender liner before the CAI goes in :)

Let's see if we can get together next Tuesday then.

Can't go tmr because i'm still looking for the fender liner. My friend said he can get one for me but only next week.

Let's see if we can meet there!

If I were you I would of fitted the intake today and wait for the fender lining next week. You have been driving like that for a while now and that HKS filter you had in there you might as well run it without a filter.

Since i have to take a day off, i want to complete everything within one day.

For the HDI CAI, i don't dare to install it without the liner..

Eric asked me to go measure the length of the pipe first, i'll see if i can go there tomorrow if i can leave earlier.

very tastefully done 4dr ek spoonson,

regards intakes, im looking for intake that has same angle as oem intake pipe, 3" diameter and option to adjust intake length, any suggestions on something readily available? im gonna stick vel stack on the end and get tuner to play with lengths on dyno in future sometime

im impressed how sharply your bhp/torque is still rising at cut of considerin your setup, motor is crying for more revs but i think best to keep revs as they are until bottom end is built

would be worth getting tuner to try and get torque curve flatter so you have more useable power everyday and will actually make your car quicker

WoW, i put on the cai today, and i hit 176.3whp with little tuning!!!

But the powerband is kind of weird, and the tuner said alittle adjustment at the cam gear should made 180whp!

I'll post up the dyno graph later~

Thats the result I was expecting from your B16B :)
Post up the dyno chart...
