Driving like a twat

You sound like a middle aged fud tbh, please try and change your driving for the safety of others if not yourself!

i do drive like a complete fucktard in my civic but only when i know its safe to ie. later at night when people arnt out cycling walking ect when you have no turbo its harder to get the thrills i used to love spooling my mahoosive turbo and hearing it chatter ;]

but at other times i will barley go over 4k in any gear just depends onmoods for people evryone on here has a well built car and uses that car show me someone who doesnt and ill show you a liar but its true saftey of others is a directive we all need to follow maybe just chill it down a bit or trackdays or even start building a project up :] thats my plan

I roll around in the ef9 at 20 holding up every muthafucka

I find the gym helps mate, get your aggression out with a good session in the gym batter some weights and that, then cruise home nice an relaxed :)
I get what your saying though, they are revy engines and it does feel good going for a blast.

I also don't like losing, if someone's behind me right up my arse I will give them a go. If it's someone in front who accelerates away from me even if it's a quicker car I will give them a go.

I had a blast against an AMG Merc a few weeks ago. I knew I was never going to get past it but felt the need to try and race the flash prick. .
For instance I had a lad behind me in a MK4 Golf Turbo today, he started off right up my arse but then backed off. This was in the middle of a town in a 30 zone.

I was doing a bit of foot to the floor action in 2nd/3rd trying to show him that I was no mug and my car would give his a go

I think this is part of your problem dude. If someone has a faster car than you, who cares? If they are driving up your ass, pull over and let them past.

You think that 'show him your not a mug' but here is some news for you guy, no one cares. No one cares about what car you have, how fast it goes and how you are a pro racing driver.

The other dude has a merc and he is a 'flash prick', what is it too you what anyone else drives? Maybe he works hard to buy his AMG. What do you think that you have 'proved' by racing him?

You sound like youd get on better if you forget other people, and just drive your car how you want to, but on that note, speeding rapid in a 30 is just an ******* move.

You had your foot down in 2nd and 3rd in a 30? So you were doing 70+ in a 30? You need to quit driving for a while mate before you kill some inasint little child.

I've got some real nice roads nearby which make it tempting to push the limits of the car. It's hard to resist the urge sometimes i know, but there's a time and a place.. I had a really bad accident about 5 years ago in which I should have died, if i'd had passengers in the car they would all have been dead; i got extremely lucky that my car landed in such a way that the drivers seat was the only fairly unscathed part & i could climb out with just a bit of concussion and minor scratches. If you keep 'driving like a twat' then its probably not long til something pretty bad happens to you, or worse still an innocent person.
I've since had a kid and find that slows me down a fair bit.. but i'm not recommending you go out and have a kid just to slow your driving down
Maybe look at some pictures of bad accidents or something.. may make you think before you start hoonin' about?!

I think this sums it up in a nutshell,

Well said that man.

Thankfully I've grown out of driving like a prick! It's funny to hear all the Angels who don't speed!! "I drive my ek9 with all my mods to the limit wether it be 30 40 or 70" just like Ali g!! Ther is no time and a place on public roads so that's crap too! Get yourself to a few trackdays to vent your need for speed.

689Rrr speaks sense.

Not cool driving like that in a 30. Plenty of faster cars out there than ek9's.

There's only so many times you can do it before you get caught right?

I agree trackdays are a place to vent anger, but it can also be a place to ruin it for everyone else!?

Respect dude, Takes a man to admit that i think..

I garantee every single person on this thread has done it..

I have had 5 accidents now.. 2 very serious... 2 average accidents. only 1 of them was my fault, that time i came off the road and hit a telegraph pole... ( yeh safe to say the pole won that fight )

BUT the other 4 times it has not been Me that caused the accident..

1 of them in fact REALLY hit home.. I was driving like a complete idiot..

then we got into town and a car broadsided me... Now, if i had still been driving like an Idiot I wouldn't be here to write this message, For me it took that Reality check to rein my self in.. I'll be honest though i don't think i was as bad as you describe yourself.. but after that shock it then hit home that it is just Dangerous, regardless how, when , where or why.. it is dangerous. fact..

I truly believe, because you have not got Caught or had a serious incident, You have got the stage where you are comfortable driving like a twat.. i think it will either take 1 of 3 things to stop you doing it.

1. A serious accident..
2. Caught by the police..
3. Self control

Nothing else is going to stop you.

Don't take my comment the wrong way man, I think its great you have noticed it and have made this thread about it.. i sound like a councillor but the first stage of any addiction is Speaking about it and realising you are doing something that, not only endangers your life but everyone around you..

I hope the advice given by everyone has, or is going to, Help you over come this.

Stand by my statement of Takes a brave man to admit it.. :nice:

I've been watching this thread for the last couple days since it was posted, and been thinking how it relates to me and what I can suggest. I think it partly boils down to what car you drive. For instance I drove a Honda Jazz before getting my EK4, I know yes its a pensioners car and therefore slow and really quite uncool. So I was rarely tempted to drive it fast especially in a straight line however it handled so good so I could enjoy a spirited drive along a nice road with plenty undulations, it didn't matter that it was only a little 1.4 eco friendly shopping car because it was still pretty fun but not dangerous. Now I have an EK4 things are slightly different, its a totally different car designed around a different concept. You know that it has a powerful, high revving 1.6, you know that its much faster and that always sticks in your mind, its always far too tempting to open it up on EVERY journey even if its a 5 or 10 min drive. It was never like that when I drove the Jazz. I'm still getting used to the handling of the Civic, the steering is heavier, the car itself is heavier, the tyres have more grip, its lower, so all these things contribute to the fact its more difficult to get close to the car's limits therefore encourages you to try push harder, then coupled with the engine its an intoxicating mix.

I think driving a different car puts you in a different mindset. I've only been driving two years and so I am lacking experience and whilst I got a driving experience day at Knockhill learning about car control it doesn't make me the next greatest racing driver. I want to enjoy my car and enjoy being an enthusiast of the Honda scene but im going to continue doing that safely. I recently had a scary moment when driving pretty briskly on a nice twisting road, there was a narrow bridge on a tightening left hander, wasn't until the last moment I noticed an Audi coming the other way, I had no option but to stamp on the brakes, the ABS was even coming in, I narrowly avoided accident but it was a reminder that driving is dangerous, needless to say the adrenaline rocketed in me after that and took me a while to calm and so I travelled at a sensible pace til I got to the main road again. Only then could I properly calm as the main road was straight and drove the rest of the way home sensibly thinking jesus I could have properly binned it there.....and I was miles away from home in the middle of frigging nowhere. Makes me feel sick even thinking about it now.

The other problem is there's those other twats on the road who think they can just never heed basic rules of the road. This is something I came across all the time with the Jazz, id have near misses through no fault of my own, things like not giving way at roundabouts and junctions, and then there's tailgaters- don't even get me started!

My advice would be to get another vehicle for driving every day, perhaps even a Honda Jazz, I kid you not they have huge potential when it comes to handling, then use your EK9 for club motorsport, speed events such as hillclimbs and sprints. Id also suggest finding a few things to take your mind away from driving, perhaps find a woman, take up hill walking or cycling or something. I personally do mountain biking, street trials riding in particular, im also a keen photographer and I make a little bit money from it, hoping to become a pro freelance. I'm also starting to get into vehicle detailing, something to help earn a bit more and feed my other interests.

After my little 'incident' I've realised there's too much to lose from driving like an idiot and id rather just enjoy being a part of the UK Honda scene and culture.

I also understand how you feel but like everyone else keeps saying, self control. I have a 5zigen border 101 which is loud as fook, i love hearing it when its sitting at 6-7k. I have the urge to rev in town or when i see chav mobiles etc, but at the end of the day i'll tell myself not to. Leave the revving on the motorway when its empty and safe. Even when im on the motorway i feel the same as you, anyone faster than me i like to be faster but i just ignore them. me driving over 100+mph isnt going to prove anything. And if i were to get caught my car would be crushed and i'll go to jail, is it really worth it?

I've recently bought a new car and the fact it has 300bhp doesnt help, but even when i drive that car i'll only rev when i'm on the motorway and its safe to do so. At the end of the day its all about controlling yourself.

I can't afford to crash and i cannot live my life knowing i killed an innocent child or adult just because i was being reckless and wanted to drive fast just to fill my needs. Ask yourself can you kill someone and live the rest of your life knowing that..

I hear what you are saying Dan, but strongly disagree with your advice of selling the car.
many examples i could give... but putting it down to the car is just not the case at all.

For you that may well have worked which is great but i think the Majority will say it is not the car that makes you drive like an idiot.

Sorry dude but that just sounds like a horrible ignorant stereotype.

i genuinely mean no offence.

i have a aftermarket exhaust on my ek9 which is fairly loud and it does my nut in tbh! will be going to a standard set up in the future

sounds like you need a women in your life pal

or take up running cause i find that its a good way to unwind and relax

depression, anti depressions, feeling suicidle, been there mate, its not a nice place to be.............. hope all gets sorted pal

I find it fun to drive slow...on the freeways everyone drives 70 75mph but I do a steady 60-65mph, traffic flows around me and once in while i get the honk to go faster, i just sip my coffee and ignore as they pass on the left as they should in the USA. All my frustrations are taken to the track when I unleash it all...
Driving slow also provides me time to smoke a cigar my new hobby after work.
Mornings I watch others get pulled over by the cops and I honk as I pass them...ok I giggle too.

Self discipline is key and I am getting good at it, until I get my ass to the track once a month.

Now driving the truck with trailer is a whole other story, I peg the speed at 60mph max.

Flowing slightly slower than traffic is so much more fun and safe and economical...really no joke.

When I was young, im 45 going on 60, i did speed along with my freak buddies, but a few have passed away from accidents, its a sobering moment...not only did they affect me, but others who were in accidents.

As far as I know, we only get one shot at living on earth with these cool cars we all drive, be safe and stay alive to enjoy it all...doubt you get cars in what ever comes after this life...

damn, where is my lighter I need a cigar.

I never said to sell the car lol, just buy another car to use on the road and use the EK for motorsport or track days. Also never said that its the only contributing factor to drving dangerously. There are many other factors, didn't aim to sound stereotypical I was simply stating that your state of mind changes qquite dramatically when you jump into a high performance vehicle. It is mostly about self control and resisting the temptation to drive faster.
