Stroke me baby

so from you calculator if i change my final drive gear to a 4.785 i can still (if i could) achieve 144mph and i will accelerate faster?true?:nice:

Why do you need to do 140+? Real world driving 120mph is plenty & even then you can only do it now and then eh. On track 130 is good for most straights depending on other mods of course. If you use the 4.78FD with the shorter gears it will be quite noisy on the motorway.
The MF gears really are that good and like the man says...cheaper.

i was jst wondering could u change 1st to 4th gear, gear ratios for acceleration and still keep the oem 5th gear ratio fo cruising down the motorway.:drive:

Yup, you are able to change (or not change) 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No one offers an "off the shelf" 2nd gear solution any longer as it is uneccessary.

Feel free to play around with our Gear Calculator to get a feel for the different ratios and speed/rpm :)

The 1.000 MF 5th is perfect for the motorway, revs drop 2.5k changing from 4th to 5th, vtec kicks in at 85-90mph (road angel gps).

Actually, SPOON and Toda does offer 1st and 2nd gears off shelf.

hmm, ok, What having a longer 1st gear, and shorter 3rd and 4th gears. And keep 5th gear for highway cruises. \

Its already 3700-3800rpm @ 100kmph in 5th gear with 4.785FD.

My stock was about 3400rpm-3500rpm with 4.4FD.

What do you think?

A lot of our customers had done a lot of NA modifications to their vehicles (Cams, Pistons, ITB's, Headers, Exhausts etc etc) as well as installing a Close Ratio Gear set, and all of them state that if they had to do it all again, they wouldn't even bother touching the engine again as the gears alone offer bigger performance improvement over all the rest of the modifications combined. And cheaper to boot :)

If you don't mind the lower top speed, 4.785 works extremely well with the close gear set.

ive heard this from many people as well :nice:

The spoon gears are sold as a complete set (with mainshaft), so not really an off-the-shelf 2nd gear option. Not sure about TODA though.

Yup, you could have the longer 1st to bring it closer to 2nd, shorter 3rd to bring it closer to 2nd, and shorter 4th to bring it closer to 3rd. You could keep your stock 5th if the highway rpm really bothers you, but this would bog down your car a little when you change into 5th (would be similar effect as changing from 3rd to 5th, stock gears).

what sort of cruising rpm/speed are you happy with?

Here's a couple of comparison graphs for you guys to look at. Note that these are fixed variables, whereas in a real situation variables are, well, variables, so the results would differ slightly. The graphs are only to give you an idea though as to why your car will be so much quicker:

P.S One other thing to note before looking at the graphs. NO, you do not increase the power of your engine. You only increase the power on tap at a certain speed compared to stock. Torque Multiplication is the key word here.

Basically More Hp and Torque on Tap @ x amount of Speed. Makes sense.

I don't think I'll be able to stand the highway cruise. I've already got 4.785FD. At times like this, I wish I had a 6th gear. :)

Maybe 4th gear doesn't have to come closer or too much. Is there anything for that?

I'm keen with 1st and 3rd and 4th. You normally don't reach 5th gear at the 1/4 mile drags anyway right...

Most of our customers are happy with using the 1.296 4th on a daily driver. For cruising, they would use their stock 5th.

If cross the line in 5th in the 1/4 mile, or you are only halfway in to 4th, that is when you know you must change your gear ratios :)

The optimum gear ratio will have you at the end of 4th gear when you cross the line.

Go back to 4.4FD & use the 1.000 5th, with the other short ratios m8, having tried two of the 5th gears your revs do drop away 4th into 5th but its a livable sacrifice for quiet easy motorway cruising.

Nothing wrong with 4.4k cruising :p Each to their own though! lol

What sort of trap speed you getting just now?

haha, I haven't been to the drags, this is just turning left into a road and blasting it down. Road was too bumpy to go faster. Affected the acceleration a bit.

Where do you think it can improve in the gears?

My mods are;
-J's Racing Intake with shield
-J's Racing ECU vtec 5500rpm-9100rpm
-2.25" custom exhuast
-5zigen 4-2-1 headers
-SPOON balanced and lighter driveshafts
-ACT flywheel 5.7kgs
-exedy HD clutch kit
-4.785 FD
-stock EK9 wheels
-1090kgs weight
-Tein Monoflex
+ more stuff not worth mentioning
