Time for an update, progress has been slow unfortunately, if it's not my family it's customers cars haha. Here was my drive on Sunday, always work to be done on EK9s it seems at the moment!
Anyway, I've got the H22 all done and wired up, the manifold is here the Euro R crank pulley I need is too. But then I decided that I was going to do things properly the first time round, so I decided to get rid of the balance shafts properly to start with. For those that don't know, you can't just remove the shafts without blocking off the oil supply to the shafts, as this would severely reduce oil pressure, not good. So I bought a balance shaft delete kit from Performance Autoworks and set about fitting it.
Here's some pics of the progress
Rear shaft drive off
Oil pump off
Now, at this point after speaking to Rich at Performance Autoworks he told me to knock out the bearings for the shafts, turn them around, and then knock them back in. This is because they have an offset hole to supply oil, so turning them around blocks the hole up. Unfortunately I found this easier said than done, and after 130k miles or whatever this engine has done the bearings would not come out without destroying them. No doubt there's a knack to this which I don't have haha. So I had to knock solid dowels into the crank girdle to block these off. This is what the Kaizenspeed kit does from America, but for twice the price I paid.
Main caps off
Longest tap ever to plug the oil feed for the shafts. Obviously made sure the inside of this was immaculate after tapping it, then screwed in a loctited plug.
Put all that back together, it was nice to see the shells and crank were all immaculate.
Pressed the plugs into the oil pump with some Hondabond
And then my Moroso sump arrived, 'spensive one from QSD.
So this is all this shite removed from the balance shafts, I will weigh it but I guess it's around 4-5kg.
I've also been buying weight saving stuff, I have a none ABS prop valve coming from Eternal on here, got the lines made up at work and these arrived last week.
I also have a Skunk2 Alpha 70mm throttle body and a set of Skunk2 adjustable cam gears. I'm going to get the manifold off and opened out to 70mm to match at work, and trim the cam cover for the gears too. These should see it crack 230bhp with a decent exhaust.
Just need to hit it hard one weekend and it might even run!
