Saint Matt's EK9 - R999 CTR

I had a couple of red CRXs but they weren't particularly clean lol, had an immaculate white one though :)

Just picked up a couple of bucket seats for it, nothing special sadly just some cobra monacos so the Recaros will be up for sale ASAP. No pics yet.

Also had and hours track time at donington Monday night after our CRX race car started spewing oil. I have chosen to go for the Nankang NS2R track tyres, and I was really impressed. There was a huge amount if standing water and I could still apply full throttle in third round the corner onto the back straight without any understeer, really happy with them!

Keep up the good work man, looking sweet. Looks even better in person.

So after a house move and a new car the Civic's no longer needed for daily duties, so it's time to get serious :D

First step was to get rid of everything I didn't need from inside the car;

I got the driver's seat in with a Tegiwa side mount seat rail, I'm going to drop it a little lower I think but other than that it's pretty good. I bolted in a Takata Race 4 harness and took it out for a blast, came back grinning from ear to ear!

It's in for an MOT today, after that I'll be dropping the gearbox out and changing the final drive. I'll also hoover out and properly clean all the dusty horrible bits of interior that have now been uncovered. I've got a few other bits and bobs to do as well but nothing major. The aim is to get this all done for a track day on the 14th, 3 weekends should be plenty to get it all sorted out.

Matt

Nah I don't think I'll go that far, over winter I'll be ditching the ABS though :)

Couple more jobs completed, nothing too exciting sorry!

Grip taped the footwells for a bit of reassurance, handy tip I got off the bosses' race car! The floor look a bit dirty here due to the renant of the sound insulation I removed, this is a bastard to completely remove but I'll get around to it one day.

I removed the alarm and recycled the brackets, using them to hold the window switches on. It did get filed down btw, it isn't quite so deadly now :D I also removed the plastic water shedders from the inner doors and removed all that horrible chewing gum sealant as well.

The other Takata arrived so I fitted the passenger seat. I need to change the steering wheel, but the inside is now pretty much done.

This weekend I'll be dropping the box out and changing the final drive.

I love this build! Looking forward to the updates. Final drive will perk it up no end!

Coming on nicely, not much left in there, must of shed a fair bit of weight there.

Think either engine degreaser or brake cleaner(can't remember which) is good for removing the leftovers of the sound deadening stuff

Hope so.

I did shift a bit with the white spirit I used for the sticky stuff on the doors, I'll probably try that again by soaking a rag and leaving it on there for a few minutes.

Started taking the gearbox out on Friday night when the rain died off a bit, got it out early saturday morning. Took it to a freinds to rebuild as i don't have enough space.

I followed a guide off Honda tech, never rebuilt a gearbox before but it was pretty easy, really happy with how it went!

I took a pic of the final drive assembled, thought I'd stick my username in it as proof of the change when I come to selling/breaking the car (probably the latter)

Put it all back together and put it back in the car yesterday afternoon, took it out for a spin and it's made good difference, especially in 3rd and 4th.

Booked a Donington evening session for the 14th, can't wait to see what a difference it's made.

thanx for the car loan today, its a right little flyer! im stripping mine for sure now!

Honda boxes are pretty easy and nice to work on,
I done a 4.7 fd conversion and Cusco diff on my 1st ek9 and it was the best thing I done to it.
Not a huge amount faster but much better to drive and better mpg some how

I'm sure my MPG is in the teens now I just end up hammering it everywhere :D

For anyone interested with 195/50/15s on at 70mph you will be at about 4,200 RPM in 5th with a 4.923 FD. Speedo is in KMH obviously, sorry for the terrible photo!

this is same as mine on JDM ITR s80 box with 4.7 fd on 205/40/17s wheels

Interesting, why are your wheels so big though? Doesn't it ruin the handling?

i cant complain, my handling is fine. i've got set of decent coilovers and car sticks to the gorund nicely! i use it as daily car so i dont do crazy corners at high speeds.
