robthedoc's ek9 turbo, adventures in boost!

Coming along nicely,
That bay looks pretty good as it is in the pictures, is it even worth painting the whole thing?

There are just a few bits that are a bit rough looking round some of the spot welds on the chassis legs and on the lower front valance. It's really just for piece of mind and it will be easier with everything out.

Sound man have them all screen shot. Plan on trying this after the summer. That's seriously top work fair play.
Having the lift really helps doesn't it
Just take your time masking it mate. It took me all day yesterday to tape it up and mask it off, literally about 6 hours, ran out of tape twice! But it's what makees the difference between a good looking job and a sh*t one. Takes 10 minutes to get a coat of underseal on. Preparation man. Good luck with it though.

Just picked up stuff from powder coaters. Looks great and was so cheap I've dropped loads more off haha. Pics coming soon...

Nice prep work. Nice to see you haven't splattered the underseal everywhere.

So the sub frame and main suspension parts are now powder coated...

Only 60 quid! 6 large bits was 60 so when I picked them up I took another 20 bits, engine mount brackets, torque brackets, sub frame brackets, arb d brackets etc etc... another 60 quid!! it would of cost more in paint to do it myself. Pentland Powder Coating if anyone in central Scotland needs anything done. Highly recommended. They've done wheels for me before and the work is always top quality.

Started to prep the front end for paint. Rubbed down some patches of surface rust that were appearing and treated them and also straightened out the lower valance as it had taken a small impact at some point and bent the radiator mount (before I got the car).

This was as straight as I could get it. It's not 100% but it's a million times better than it was. Sat the radiator in place and it lined up perfectly with the top mount so happy with that.

Went a bit ott rubbing back and treating the corners of the chassis legs

Then masked it up and got a couple coats of primer on the areas I treated

Once the primer was set it was time to paint. Now I can get a semi decent finish with rattle cans and I'm fairly confident at that. But this was totally different. Ive never mixed paint or used a spray gun before. A mate of mine is a painter and he got me the paint and hardener and a few mixing pots and the recipe for mixing it. 2 to 1 paint to hardener with 10% thinners. WTF am I doing. How wrong can it go...

So I guess now I have to show you all how it turned out... Well it was certainly better than I was expecting but I don't think I'll be painting anything on the exterior lol

I think it turned out really well, there are one or two small runs but i think they will rub out with some wet and dry. Turns out champ white is a direct gloss so no clear coat. Happy days because I am never spraying anything again. Too stressful haha.
