Rob's EK9 Progress

Yeah I was but bed to find limit of oem first..disc ffreaky parts slotted ones worked a treat or tarox if you have the budget

Yeah I need to look in to the options and decide what to go for. Won't be for a couple of months now though :(

You managed to find the limit of the OEM disk pretty quickly then?

after a few trackdays but some people run oem discs with uprated pads n find it okay but for cooling and cleaning purposes def good to get slotted, drilled unessary for ek9 really

Thinking I might stick with OEM on the rear and going for DS2500 with Spoon disks up front (few slots). Thinking this may be the better option for me as I'm not sure how often I'll actually be getting out on track.

Yep no need to change rears is all on the front, spoons would be pricey tho but if you got the budget...id choose tarox or dixcel rotors

That's good didn't think there was a need to go mad on the tears. So far I've found the spoons to be cheapest at £110 for the pair. Although not looked at the price of the dixel but have seen quite a few recommend them so would be an option I would prefer over the Tarox.

Just read your whole thread and realised I was admiring your car at japfest your engine bay was so clean.
This is how an EK9 should be looked after keep up the good work :nice:

Lovely car thought the black rocker was nicer but each to the own strange tyre fitment you went for??

Thanks Josh. Was you parked next to me at Japfest?

Thanks.

I do quite like it now I look back at the photos. Might even buy a spare rocker in the future and try out some other colours.

What's up with the tyre fitment? Tyres on the Mugens are the correct size. Is that what you're talking about or are you asking what size tyres I went for?

I drove to japfest but my car wasn't on the stand wish It was now would of been great to meet everyone. There didn't look there was to many 9s there this year though.

i just meant you went for 205-45- just wondering why? iv never seen that tyre fitment used before anywhere. Any one over here in ireland i know uses either 195-50 or 195-55 for track. Just curious is all :)

An road cars could be 195-45

Yeah shame you didn't join the stand. There was a few other dotted about the show on other stands but numbers where down from the last couple of years.

Ok I see. Well 205 is the preferred width tyre for a 7J wheel. 195 is acceptable but I wanted to have the tyre sit flush with the wheel and gain the benefit of having a wider wheel with the wider tyre. Also means the tyre protects the rim better. Using the 45 profile on that size keeps the overall circumference almost exactly the same as the OEM wheel and tyre, so has no affect on the speedo.

Andy also runs the same tyre size on his CE28n's which are the same spec as the MF10's. Guess its not the done thing over in Ireland but the tyre spec is not that unusual. ;)

Ah right i see ya the 40-45 is a fecker for damaging the wheels because so much of it is exposed i have 195-40 on back of my advan 16"x7 and 195-45 on the front looks great and handels perfect but have to be very careful.

Thanks for the write up :)

I'd avoid the ds2500s, I find you dont use them enough on light cars with big brakes, especially ones that get used as daily driver too, to ever 'use them up' and they just end up falling apart/glazing/leaving horrific deposits on your discs and eventually unbearable brake judder! lol

Very wise advise just get a set if you do decide to track it maybe

Thanks for the heads up Nicole! Is certainly food for thought. Would be a while till I get on track I think, so could just chop some in when I finally get round to it.

Bit late with this update but here goes.
So the first job was to give the nine a wash ready to be covered for the next couple of weeks while I have the bumper off for a re paint. It needs a re paint as my brother clipped the corner quite a few months back and although I polished out the scratches. The plastic had been stressed and the paint is showing some hairline cracks.

In the back of the other civic with the Seeker rep I bought back in February!

Next is to make a start on cleaning up the arches as I haven't given them a deep clean since last spring and it needed doing!

Have also put the OEM wheels back on for the time being as they will be removed quite frequently.

Started the scrub down on the front with some billberry and a brush. The filth is quite embarrassing but I do still daily this as much as possible so its bound to pick up a good amount of filth.

Have planned to paint up the arms and tidy up any unsightly areas as I go.

Will update again over the next week once the painting is in full swing. The engine bay will also be getting another good going over in those hard to reach areas.

Thanks for reading. :)

Make a lot of progress over the last few weeks.

Arch liners came out for a good scrub. They where pretty rank.

Re aligned the passenger door. This had been bugging me for a while now

Got the front grill apart to clean up the overspray and cleaned up the hidden areas.

So with the arches. I touched in any worn off underseal.

Lick of hammerite on the rusty looking arms

The rust had started to come back through on the front lower frame. So set about attacking it again.

These where the worst areas

Bushed back and got some red oxide on there.

Black stone chip paint. Will then be followed with some white stone chip.

I had noticed the sump gasket had started to fail. So ordered up a fresh one. While it was being replaced I cleaned up the sump.
