R1PPU's EJ9 Build Up

Both looking wicked mate , all need to catch up soon now the weathers getting better...

Cheers man! Yeah for sure, me and Steve were saying the exact same! Think the last time we all got together was at Arthurs Seat last summer haha

Lol long time ago now mate, nothing better when the weathers decent :)

If you get the stuff me and dave will do it for you mate. Win win

Cheers for the offer man! In all honesty I just cant afford it whilst I'm still at uni haha.

Nice car mate just spent 20 mins reading it all :) you done a good job :D

Thanks man! Hope it didn't bore you too much :p

How can it be a rep when ek9's are obv NKDM and he does KH laps in 30 secs.. not me anyway

Ohhhhh my bad... Does he run people over when they're trying to help too? ;)

Bit of a crap update but update none the less haha. Finished 4th year of uni in the past few days, so just been chilling out. Means that I can do some work on the car I've been wanting to do for a while, before I go down to Coventry for my internship. Decided to mess about with my dissertation front cover before I handed it in, added a line below the title and changed my lecturer's name, I was surprised at how many people didn't notice haha.

Stripped down the front brakes, the bottom slider on both sides were sticking a bit, regreased them but not sure what else I can do to help them move a bit more freely? The pistons are moving fine and there wasn't any pitting on the sliders, they're just not returning that freely after applying the brakes.

My exhaust has been rattling a bit, doesn't sound like baffles, more that its hitting off something. Tried to find it, but once the car was up on stands it wouldn't rattle. My knocking noise is still there, I thought this might have been a droplink, so went to replace that whilst the car was up in the air, 10 minute job turned into a nightmare as usual haha. Ball joint started spinning on the droplink, and the allen key wouldn't fit. Got the grinder out to cut it off, but the track rod end was in the way. Went to take this out at the hub end to move it out the way, but the ball joint started spinning that... After an hour of hammering, got the track rod end free. Cut the ball joint side of the droplink off because I couldn't get to the back, cut a groove into the bit left to put a screwdriver in but the screwdriver wouldn't grip. Then my mole grips broke and I got pissed off haha. Went and bought new molegrips, and eventually just went mental with various tools and got the droplink off.

The drop link didn't fix it. The only thing that I've not replaced in terms of bushes is ARB and steering rack bushes, so I've ordered new ARB bushes and I'll go from there. Got a few parts I want to freshen up including a service, basically just want to make sure the car's 100% before I go down because I'll be away for 3 months. I'll be taking some basic tools down with me, so gave everything a clean and replaced the ratchet mech's (yeah I really need to get a life...).

In the mean time, I've just started cleaning the car, want to get it fully protected before I go down because I don't know if there's going to be any washing facilities down there. Started off with a full inside out clean, seats came out really well and looks almost brand new. The amount of crap that came off the DC2 recaro was disgusting, I keep my interior pretty clean so was a surprise haha. Ended up running about with just the SPG in for a few days whilst the DC2 seat dried.

All cleaned and back together.

Then came to the outside, only gave it a quick wash yesterday as I planned to machine it today but the rains been on and off all day.

The wheels need a good clay and polish too, so that's a job for tomorrow if the weathers good.

Here's a few pictures that got taken of the car up at the Monster Unit Track Night, as usual thanks to the guys who took them!

That's pretty much all, as said I leave in a month so just want to get everything sorted before then. Got a list of things to work through, everything's pretty tedious so just need to find motivation haha. On a side note, does anyone know where to get hub nuts? Honda wanted £7 each, which I'm struggling to justify...

Hope I didn't bore you too much!

Still love this car :)

Excellent progress

Thanks mate! Much appreciated :)

Suppose I better update this!

Finally got round to cleaning the wheels properly, iron x is awesome but my god does it stink!!

Then went to fit genuine new front ARB D bushes. As with everything else on my car, this turned into a nightmare, one of the bolts snapped in the subframe so had to drill that out and re-tap the thread. No pictures of that unfortunately, was too busy swearing at the car.

My passenger window hasnt been working for a while could hear the motor but no movement, decided to pull everything out and clean and regrease it in the hope it was just clogged up

Made it much better, the window would go down but not back up. But somehow its working fine now so just gonna leave it.

Painted the OEM rear lip I've had sitting around for ages, and resprayed the front lip because it was ruined haha. Not bad for a years wear!

Decided I'd had enough of the exhaust rattle so took the car back to the guy who made the exhaust. It's nothing critical but we couldn't fix it in time for me coming down to Coventry, so had to leave it until I go back to Edinburgh.

Whilst the car was up on the ramp I noticed that my front tyres were like slicks... This was an issue as I had my MOT the next day. Called @Steve M in a panic and he let me borrow a pair his track wheels, a nice pair of Volks :)

Car failed its MOT on rear brake lines which was a kick in the nuts as I only had 5 days to get the car sorted, retested and all my stuff ready for Coventry. As usual, did it myself.

Now the internet said that double flares work fine so this I what I did. Cut the lines, flared the ends and bent them to the right shape...

So the internet lied. Double flares are fine for the flexi side, not the drum side. I spent 6 hours tried to thread in the double flare, no luck. My mate Joe came round to help, suggested a single flare and of course, that fitted straight away.

On the same day my tyres arrived, got them fitted and the car passed its MOT :)

Then as of Friday, I've owned the car for 5 years. Come pretty far with my first car I think! I remember buying it and thinking I would never do anything to it because it already had all the things I wanted... :nerv:

And now I'm down in Coventry for 3 months! Plenty of clearance getting into my parking space...

And I'm out! Cheers for reading if you made it this far haha
